I'm not a fan of Christmas. There, I said it. Can I tell you why? Jesus never wanted his Birthday to be a source of burden or stress. He did want it to be about giving, but are we doing it right? Everyone asks, "Are you ready for Christmas?" No. I'm ready for what Christmas should be. We stress about lights, trees, ham or turkey, who's coming and who's not, did I buy him or her a gift, should I get this person something, etc. Christmas puts such a demand on us that we lose our minds. I have no problem giving gifts, but does your 10 yr old child really need an $800 cell phone when your neighbor can't pay a power bill? This is Jesus' Birthday, doesn't he deserve the gift? You know you can give Him a gift, right? How? That's the easy part. If you see someone hungry, feed him. If someone is thirsty you give them a drink. Where there is a stranger in need, invite him in and take care of him. If there are kids who need clothes, buy them some. If there is someone who is sick go tend to them. If someone is in prison go visit. Jesus tells us that if we do these things to "the least of these", then you have done it for Him. What an awesome way ot celebrate the savior's birth, and maybe change you eternally. It's not to late. It's never too late.

Well I love Christmas it gives me an excuse to play secret Santa because I love doing things for others. do them all year. I just don't want the recipient to know who did it because I get my joy from the giving. It's harder during the rest of the year but this time of year other people will help you do good things.

My post was actually stolen from a friend (Randy Absher) and I forgot to credit him as the original author.

And I think doing the secret Santa thing is kind of in the same spirit as Randy's essay. My takeaway was that our priorities have gotten completely off kilter. Many people have completely forgotten what the holiday of Christmas is all about.
