Well the time has finally come!!!!!
I'm starting CDL school on the 8th of January, according to what I read here in front of me the total hours of the course is 600 hours. 120 hours classroom, 40 hours oilfield training, 112 hours yard and driving range instruction,48 hours road training, 280 hours externship where I go to a company of my choice and train with them. After all that training I can either stay with that company or go to another and train again and drive for them. This is their tier 1 CDL training at Great lakes CDL training, Now if thats not proper training then please tell me what is!!!!! This is the school I choose because of it training which I thought was only 200 hours but now I have to go another 400 hours and work with a company of my choice in their list of companies which is pretty good training altogether if ya ask me and no Swift is not on the list of companies to choose from nor would I choose them unless it was the only chance I could.Only after I complete all that training do I get my certificate of completion which to me says they are pretty good and no they are not paying me to say this!!!!!! According to what I was told yesterday the training with end around the 4th of April.
To me this is good news seeing how my b-day is on the 10th, a birthday present for me. I've been working towards this point for just over 2 years now and couldn't be happier. I've put in a couple applications already for the externship and not sure what to do after that is done, stay with the company that gave me the opportunity for my OTR training or go to the smaller company that may be hiring me that I've been talking with November. Any advice from you guys is appreciated, thanks again for putting up with me for this long!!!!

I would stay with the company that trains you for at least a year to establish some seat time and allows you the opportunity to look other places while your out making money and living the dream. Unless you find out it's a crap company to work for. You seem to have done your research that works out the best for you. Keep doing it and you should be fine. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

I did all of my Christmas shopping this morning online. Never set foot in one store. Between gift cards that can emailed or texted, it was a breeze.

I hope all of you are having a great Christmas. Mine hasn't been the best, but I sort of figured that this year would be a bit of a downer. Seeing my kids was nice, just wish they had been around a little more. I was set to be off until the 28th but I'm going to call in tomorrow and see if they can get me a load out. Setting here in this house is so depressing that I'd rather be just about anywhere...except north of Richmond, Va on I-95...lol.

Well I tried to get an early load out but they had already set me up to be in Johnson City, Tennessee at 1200 on the 28th. Flooring load going to Iowa. Then hope to snatch a quick load to Omaha to get to the yard and take over my truck.

About that. @bzinger took a little trip over to the yard today to fire up my APU to combat the nasty cold that's settled in over the midwest. Didn't go well. Fuel was gelled and the batteries were dead. But he did say they had detailed it to a high shine and cleanliness that was impressive. That's nice but I need her to run also...lol.
