You will have no freedom, not at .93 a mile and FSC. You will be out in the parking lot looking for dropped change to buy a $3 hot dog.

 

The word "great" and $0.96 a mile do not belong in the same post.

 

So many drivers have no clue how badly they're getting screwed.

Well let me tell you.. I hired a driver to team with me W2 and guaranteed him $100k+ a year in writing.
He gets 1 day off home every 3 weeks.
Sometimes we sit on the road and he still gets his $300 a day.

He just dropped me off in Florida by my house, the last 7 1/2 days we grossed over $20,000 to the truck and well over $3.50 all miles the truck moved.
We only worked maybe 6 1/2 days out of that peroid.

I'm now sending him home to Ohio, got roughly $3 a mile out of Florida to Ohio.

I'm leasing to a carrier and get 90% of whatever I book.
Been doing this only two months on my own so far and as a noob I'm still averaging over $3 all miles to the truck.
That's how much money is out there and hard badly you O/Os working for $1 a mile are getting ripped off.

When you haul for that garbage it hurts yourself and your fellow drivers out here.
Save up some money as a company driver, then go out get your own truck and do your own thing.
All these carriers are all out keep as much money as they can and leave peanuts to their drivers. I had it, no more.. never again relying on a carrier for my freight.
Best decision of my life.

Don't sell yourself short, if you're already paying for a truck you're taking on that risk and responsibility... you better make every effort to use that truck you're paying for to get the best rates possible.

 

A brand new truck for $120 a week and .23 a mile? Did I read that right? Let's do some math... $480 a month for the lease and say 3,000 miles a week x 4 x .23 = $2,760 + 480 = $3,240 a month truck payment, no clue on insurance costs, I am sure there are other fees...

I could take a few grand down, find an old truck, get financing and repair as I go for $2.50 a mile in more than a few places, even more than that where I am now...

Let's take one of my random settlement sheets, I drove roughly 1400 IFTA miles, grossed $3,845, Fuel was $679, Net was $2012.50. There were 6 runs, DH was equal to loaded miles, these were round trips and back empty with a dry van over 4 days. That is $2.75 miles gross, $1.44 miles net after expenses. Not one of my better weeks, but I just pulled the settlement out of the air... LOL! But, still good for a lazy fart like myself.

Now, let's do the same for your .93 and FSC... Let's say you are getting $1.30 a mile GROSS and driving 3000 miles in a WEEK, not 4 days... I will use my fuel times 2 to figure this... And I am doing this on the fly... Ok, 3000 miles at $1.30 gross = $3900 gross to the truck. Break down the truck payment per week = $810. Fuel costs, $1,358. Doing math here... $3900 - 810 = $3090... Now, subtract Fuel $1,358 = $1738... Now, that may seem like quite a bit of coin... But, look what you are doing to make less than I am. And now, let us figure in the fact that not every week is going to fetch you 3000 miles, some weeks you may only get 1400 miles... Let's do some more math using my number and yours...

1400 x $1.30 = $1,820 - $679 for fuel = $1,141 - Truck Payment of $810 = $331.00 NET pay to the Driver, not impressed.

Now, sit down and figure out an average of all the above. My guess is that you will be making no more than a Swift driver with no cares in the world.

And to boot, figure the above with say an $810 a month truck payment and $100 a month bobtail insurance payment... I will let you do that math.

And then figure it with no payment...

You want to take a month off, knock yourself out under my plan. You are not going to be able to afford it under yours. My plan, you are golden. Just saying, and that is just simple math.

I own another truck but was leased onto a rip off carrier who offered 92%. Problem was the brokers always called with $1.19 freight so $1.19 x .92 = running for a loss. Eventually the truck broke down and I didn't have the coin to fix it.

I tell ya, some of these big truck carriers have found a legal way to stick a knife in your back and take your wallet in the middle of Central Park.

 

I get 70%, but I get 70% of a good rate. No fees, and they supply a brand new trailer.

 

.93 a mile is .93 a mile no matter who is cutting the check.

Go for it.

 

The carrier I was leased onto helped me get a brand new dry van which they settlement deducted from me every week. I would do terminal to terminal runs for them for a fixed CPM rate and if they didn't have terminal freight I could call a broker and get 92%. Problem was corporate got into this habit of holding us (owner ops stuck at terminals with no freight) hostage til they did have freight and would deny us the opportunity to work with the broker. When we could work with the broker or load boards, they took that away and installed in-house brokers who hid the true rates from us.

So the guy says "$1.19" I say "I'm sorry did you mean $2.19?" Nope, they would always cry a river about how they don't have that much in it.

Then the dope smoking loaders started poking holes in my trailer and when I would call corporate to reimburse me for the repairs, they ask for pictures and never call back. Never can get ahold of anyone about it. Finally shake the tree enough and they say, "why not turn in your $150 per week trailer for one of our $185 a week pool trailers?"

I am hearing now the pool trailers are up over $300 a week.

Anyway I could write a book about it but basically leasing onto JCT is just about a very similar pay as this other carrier just some things are structured different. My pay is low, yes but I am indirectly paying for the reefer pool that way. My pay is low but JCT pays the IFTA out of the money they don't pay me.

I meant what I said about being a great way to purchase a truck-- for a person with terrible credit and no down payment. A motivated person could hire a teammate and pay the truck down even quicker at the $0.23 per dispatched miles. JCT hires a lot of drivers who want 'freedom' but have no idea how to run a business. A team truck can clean up just re-powering 'freedom' seeking lazy drivers who can't make their loads on time.

 

A motivated person would work on their bad credit and save up for a down payment instead of settling for a deal as bad as the one JCT offers...
