This is exactly right. Everyone in support of hoas always tried to say that without them the neighbors property would become junk yards and over grown with weeds 4 foot tall. And if that's all they prevented it with be fine. But nope, what we get is punks on a power trip that go after people for building a shed to keep their lawnmower in and for putting up a clothesline to air dry clothes and blankets.

Heck, according to striker, my house should be in the middle of a war zone as I live in a suburb, and not an HOA.
Got 5" of snow Christmas Eve night/Christmas. Wanna know when the plow came by my court? Christmas evening abut 6pm. Oh how horrible I had to wait 12 hours on Christmas!... (Yes, that was sarcasm.) I have 1 garbage company that does recycle every other week with garbage once a week. I have no neighbors with abounded cars. I have a very good road to get home on, etc.... I get to blow the leaves in the street in the fall, and the city comes around to collect.

Oh, and I get to put up a shed and paint my house any color I want. Tell me again why I want a dictator around telling me my lawn is 1/4" too tall?

In other words, you can't follow the rules and laws, got it, I'm curious, do you run 100% legal on the road?

And thus, when the City doesn't have enough employees to enforce the laws, then things go to pot, or they raise taxes to pay for more employees to do those jobs.

First off, it's illegal in most states for an HOA to foreclose on a property because someone is in violation of a covenant, the foreclosure can only be for a delinquency in dues. Much like being delinquent on your mortgage, property tax bill or homeowners insurance. Bet you think it should be illegal for a bank to foreclose on a delinquent mortgage or a county to foreclose on a delinquent tax bill. Personally, I like the idea a friend has, he buys up delinquent tax bills, then forecloses on the property. It's fun to watch stupid people get booted from their homes when he forecloses. In the last 15 yrs, he's foreclosed and flipped or foreclosed and turned into rentals almost 30 homes.

Hmm, got 5" of snow the night of Dec. 23rd, the HOA had the sidewalks plowed by 4 am, and the streets were mostly plowed by 8 am. Guess your lucky to live in a City that plows residential streets, in Colorado, most cities don't plow residential streets unless 10" or more falls in one storm, and those are the last streets plowed, typically 3 to 4 days after the snowfall has ended, when the snow has turned to ice.

If you're not smart enough to read the documents at closing, or follow the rules, then you that's what happens. It is funny to read people bashing HOA's for simply having rules to follow, I wonder how most of you are able to drive a commercial vehicle when there are rules/laws to follow.

I haven't shoveled snow since I moved out of my parent's house, and couldn't care less if my street gets plowed. My first winter in this house, we got 18" of snow right before Christmas, and I could still get in & out just fine despite the fact that it was a good week before the street was cleared...no big deal. If it concerns you that much, buy a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

You're the one comparing your pathetic little grasp on "authority" to that of a state trooper. If you knocked on my door with any of the "issues" you've posted about, you'd be $#!+ing teeth for a week.
