Brokers want high rates as well. 15% of 4 thousand is better than 15 of 2 thousand. If this is truly what's going on the spot market will flood with trucks gladly with compliant Eld's.
I still think the Eld is a flash in the pan. The Corporate tax cuts will be the the uncorking of the bottle. Eld or not.

Yeah 6% of billions is quite a lot of extra money.

Brokers I've spoken to are not happy.
"I have to go back to my customer and tell them you know that rate i quoted you back in October welllllll it has now tripled if you want it moved".
That was one good one I heard.
Plus they have to come up with all sorts of excuses why they are failing at covering loads, why trucks are having soo many service failures etc".

Right now is not a good time to be a broker, they are like wild animals now.
It comes across to the customer that the broker is NOT getting the job done, is not getting their loads covered etc etc and brokers are worried about losing their customers.

If this happened slowly sure it would be good for brokers but ELDs have put this industry into the twilight zone and somehow brokers have to explain that to their customers or risk losing them.
Remember if they can't move loads they don't get paid and they could lose their customer.
A whole lot of loads are not getting moved lately. Tell you what, it sure is a good time to have a truck and be on the open market.
Dunno how long this will last but I'm having a blast.

All of this stuff gets passed on to consumers in the end. It's just how it works. The end game is how consumers and the general economy react. I'm not saying it won't last, I'm just saying there are no such things as money trees. But, I wish I was in your shoes at this current moment. Bank it, make it pay, think long term. Profit makers never choose to suffer so something will give.

Some of the FB groups have brokers losing theirs minds. Some of them can not get their head wrapped around supply & demand. It's awesome to watch.

When these cold storage places hold up a truck 7 hours you no longer can just whip out that second log book and getrrrdone!
Now trucks are limited in what they can do and it's showing especially in the reefer market.

More trucks are needed to make up for this but unless company driver pay goes up a lot I don't see it happening.

Yeah, how long has the supply of trucks been artificially high from guys burning log books faster than diesel?

Even a couple months ago I heard a couple guys bragging about running 5k miles a week.

What I like best though,is the ATA's idea for putting independent operators out of business is back firing, at least for the moment.

This is a extremely unpopular belief but what the heck.
The biggest offenders of cheap freight has never been the ATA. It's been cheap carriers running two log books if I'm following this theory correctly.
How can they be so evil and raise rates for everyone at the same time? Maybe they where the ones tired of everyone running cheap freight?
Just playing devil's advocate and drawing the only reasonable conclusion. As a matter of fact the ATA appears to have done more recently for owner operators than OOIDA. Lol. It's funny if you think about it.
I don't believe in level playing fields. I like my very own field. But I don't believe in 1 dollar a mile freight either. Lol
