This new truck is doing well in the winter so far , and that's coming from a driver that's been stuck above I-80 90% of the time since late Sept .

The glass does frost up inside a lot though . Even in the warmth it would condensate and get my bol's wet . I dont know if this is isolated or if all '18 trucks do it though but I am told they "sweat" a lot

I had battery problems a few years back with a company out of Iowa, most of their service was contracted to outside shops near their “terminals” which were nothing more than a small office located in an old industrial park and a small lot for their trucks. It was mostly t660’s, the one I had developed a problem were I was constantly getting a foul odor (like raw sewage) from underneath the drivers side steps. It was raining a lot lately where I was with some minor flooding, so I thought maybe a sewer backed to near the lot where I was delivering. Plus I noticed the batteries were not holding a charge as they should’ve. After some fighting with that company’s maintenance dept I finally got into a shop and pulled the batteries, which were actually smoking (the source of the odor) and swelled. Imagine if they had all burst while going down the road....

They better not eventually try to force it on us... Like some companies.

Agreed. I'll be out the door. But I can not see them being that way but one never knows.

It seems we are losing the standard daily meal deduction and this is why Holland is providing the per-diem option. Seems OTR company employee truck drivers who stay out a lot get screwed no matter what they choose. The raising of the standard deduction doesn't come any where near covering the daily meal allowance, and I don't like the idea of payroll per-diem just on principal but I may have to choose this if in fact the standard meal allowance deduction is going away.

Pilots and flight crew and truck drivers be dam'd.

Thanks a lot Stexan for that info .

I read the tax bill and it looks like they're right but I need to speak to a cpa when I get home time about this and figure this out

What difference does it make how you can write it off you s get to write it off.
Doubling of standard vs per down you s are not paying taxes on it.

The per diem, over time, reduces the amount of social security payments you might get back in retirement. Plus the old way of taking the daily meal allowance always netted less tax liability than using the "per diem gross" and the standard deduction.

Yeah, that's why I've always opted out of per diem at other companies . It will look like you make less to financial institutions and you're contributing less to ss for your future VS writing it off at the end of the year from your total gross earnings .

You shouldn't be relying on ss either way but it's the point
