Are there ANY ELD's that have a "HOS EXEMPT" duty status option?

Complying with paper logs should never be a PIA...
I filled out the #### things for a life time, I don't see the lack of motivation to sit and carefully fill out a paper log AS YOU GO through your trucking work.
Messing with a ELD on the other hand or getting caught without one... that's a PIA.AZ Pete Thanks this. -
Why shouldn't it show on duty not driving? Which is what they are. BTW the computer doesn't trigger driving until they hit 20 mph. This info comes from a friend of mine doing just this.

Once you turn on the exempt mode the clocks stop.. period...
ELD Hours of Service (HOS) and Agriculture Exemptions -
Let's take as an example a run we do from Twin Falls to Langley BC. Two hours to load, and then the first 150 Air Miles are exempt, which puts me in Boise. Start logs in Boise, 610 miles to the border. I show up at the border with a legal log book, but the moment I cross I am no longer legal.
I can't just show them that I am exempt under US rules, they don't care (nor should they). I have to show the on duty hours, starting mileage and all driving hours for Canada. Without an ELD that accommodates both rules, the only choice there is is to run either two ELD's (one in US mode, one in Canadian mode), or run a paper copy at the same time. The paper copy makes me nervous, because then I have a driver with two non-matching log books, which is going to set off Barney Fife like nothing else. -
When you are in the US you run US rules,,, when you enter Canada, the rules you run as exempt still apply to your logs... You are legal in the US and your logs reflect that... Your logs if shown in Canada are legal logs... Carry a copy of the link printed out.
ELD Hours of Service (HOS) and Agriculture Exemptions
Now,,, any ELD does have the option to change your HOS rule to Canadian, but if you do, then you have to be in compliance with US HOS before entering the US... In Canada you can drive longer.

That is why it is easier to just run US HOS in Canada.. -
To take your point another way... If I change to Canadian HOS and drive 13 hours on my logs... when I enter the US, they do not go back on the Logs driven in Canada and show me in violation of the 11 hour drive rule... I was in Canada and was in compliance with Canadian HOS... the US will/cannot show me in violation..
SO the same applies... You run US HOS, enter Canada... the days you show in the US are in compliance with US HOS... therefore Canada cannot show you in violation of the rules since you were in compliance of the rules for the country you were in. -
I will ask him if the company is using an AOBRD and not a true ELD. It may make a difference to @Accidental Trucker.
-
no need to ask..
ELD or AOBRD - this applies to both..
ELD Hours of Service (HOS) and Agriculture Exemptions
I think the OP thinks they have to change their logs that are showing exempt to show 11/14 and show the mileage to go into Canada... Post 16/17
If your logs are in compliance in the Country you are in at that time/date, then they are in compliance in another country...bigguns Thanks this. -
