I admittedly do not and have not visited every Manheim auction around the country, but of the one’s I do partake of more frequently I’m noticing an odd, if not disturbing trend. “No Overnight Parking!”

I guess I find myself at odds over this simply because I can’t figure for the life of me why. Then again, it could be due to the massive amount of abuse that some drivers rain upon them. Here’s a list of things I’ve witnessed at various auctions, not just Manheim.

    - Drivers leaving trash in the parking lots
    - Drivers leaving piss bottles in the parking lots
    - Drivers actually peeing in the parking lot. Yes, I've seen that happen.
    - Old tires ...Didn’t realize auctions were a recycling center
    - Trailers, mostly wedges. Because afterall, they are personal long term parking for many wedge pullers.
    - Yes hydraulic lines break and fluid is splilled. Apparently it’s the auctions responsibility to fully clean it up. And nothing like trying not to bust your ### when walking in a rain soaked mess of hydraulic fluid.
    - The list goes on and on

I know there are many of us that take pride in our work, and that professionalism is also what keeps us from desecrating property that is not ours and is offered to our use as a privilege by the auctions. And yet there are others that only see this profession as a pay check today and have no care or concern of others around them or of this business. And quite frankly, they shouldn’t be allowed to ever load a car on a trailer and yet they do.

So yes I’m disheartened by the ever shrinking of overnight parking at Manheim facilities, I can’t say as I blame them. I would be sick and tired of being a butler to a bunch of degenrates who simply don’t give a ####.

And for all of you and us that do care, thank you for continuing to show a level of professionalism that is fast becoming a lost art.

I love hauling cars. It’s a very special gift and talent. We do something most truck drivers have zero desire to touch with a 10’ stick. We deserve to be right paid for our talent, but we need to truly clean up our own house. This trade was once great and it can be again, but it begins with each of us. We must be willing to show that we deserve the money and it will come.

Thanks for letting me rant. Happy New Year!!!

They should just put up cameras to catch them and ban them from there... Problem solved in many ways.

Actually, no. Cameras only allow the deeds to be seen and punishment to be delivered. Sadly, it won’t fix the actual problem, of if you will “the root of the problem.” In order for that to be fixed, mentality must change.

Those drivers are like cancer, you may dissipate it but they'll come back.

I just feel people need harsher punishments to stupid stuff they do. So people actually stop to think before they royally screw them selves over. But that's US

I'll go along with that. This trucker actually worked out of ADESA in little rock where we had some of the problems you listed now and then. But not too much because they had a manned gate shack that was maybe two truck lengths from the street across their parking lot so it's difficult for anyone to do their securement and so forth out there by the fence and not be seen.

I don't know anything about the auctions you spoke of, but if they do not have a manned staff or security presence, then YEA you will see their property with problems by morning.

Fortunately, I haven't seen that policy in effect where I run out of. But that might be because they usually don't have enough manpower to do all the stuff they do and patrol the lot looking for dirtbags at the same time. I usually use them as a last resort when I can't find parking anywhere else but, then again, I also like to keep a low profile (and keeping a low profile usually means not being a #### pig or otherwise obnoxious).

I kind of have a different take on this. I personally think they do a terrible job with lot maintenance yes lines break truckers have trash and piss bottles that should go into their overflowing trash barrels is this something they shouldn't expect ? After all they help drive down rates for their customers. The only explanation I see as acceptable for not allowing overnight parking is lack of space. Which is a problem I have pulled in lots can't find a space and all the trucks are empty. Truck parking is only getting worse.

The auctions don’t Drive the rates down. The truck owners moving th freight for the sub standard rates are at fault.

Agreed. But there are two major auctions that own virtually everything & everyone who apparently watched a crappy tv show is now attempting to be a car hauler....
