Hello. I have applied to work with a company and they sent me to do a standard drug test. So I went.

I know it's stupid. It completely slipped my mind but I ate Polish poppy seed strudel 2 days ago. It's a pastry.

So the lab called me back yesterday telling me they have to disclose it to the hiring company. Well there is nothing I can do about it. I asked them about their privacy policy and they said they will only disclose it to the company. I still have to find out the privacy policy of the company.

The lab doctor told me they found morphine. My co worker told me my face turned pale. I told them it could be poppy seeds. They told me its seems to be more than that of a regular bagel. Yeah well no ****!

I have no clue how to fight this. Does anyone know? I'm not a God #### user!

So I have an interview tomorrow with a freight company. What do I tell them? Can I say no I never failed a drug test?

    Thank you in advance.

Poppy Seeds in the correct source metabolizes to morphine by your liver into your blood for further disposal via kidneys.

HE HE HE... and yes I am dead serious. With the right seeds it will work well.

Hot #### I love strudel. Maybe you ship me some of that unusable left over now that you are a CDL driver. HA! /tease.

Can Poppy Seeds Cause a Positive Drug Test? | USADA

Do poppy seeds contain a substance that is prohibited in sport?
While poppy seeds don’t actually contain morphine, the seeds can become coated by, or absorb, opium extract during harvesting. Opium is the milky substance that is extracted along with the poppy seeds from the seed pod of the opium poppy after all the petals have fallen off.

The opium is composed of roughly 12 percent morphine, which is a narcotic that is prohibited in-competition. According to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List, morphine is a threshold substance, meaning that WADA-accredited laboratories determine if a sample is positive for morphine when the level of morphine in the urine is greater than *1.3 micrograms/mL.

Can the morphine from poppy seeds be detected in a sample?
Research shows that morphine and codeine can sometimes be detected in the urine up to 48 hours after ingestion of poppy seeds from some pastries, such as bagels, muffins, and cakes (see reference one for a free article on this topic).

Even though most of the opium is removed from the poppy seeds during processing (usually more than 90%), in some cases, the seeds sold for use in foods still have a significant amount of opium – and thus morphine – on them. The amount of morphine residue left on the seeds depends on how well the poppy seeds are cleaned and processed, which varies depending on the country the seeds are from and how and when they were harvested.

I’m skeptical. Too many people come on here and post how they got a false positive drug test. I think some of them are just trying out excuses to see if they might fly. See if we all say, ya man that ain’t right!

In this case I am prepared to accept the strudel. Provided the seeds are sourced and bypassed somehow the American food production processes which usually eliminates the possibility of getting drugged on seeds.

We Germans occasionally had happy time after good eating now and then back in the day. Provided you got the necessary basic foods from the old homeland direct via mail order back then.

Poland would get a pass on this one and will be forgiven. he he. TEASE.... with a smile.

I am just going to put the information out there. The FMCSA has specific criteria for this drug testing. Unless you were called by a MRO (medical review officer) and asked about your prescriptions your test was not an official test. A lot of companys do pre employment testing but only testing with approved labs and MROs count in regard to being disqualified. Based on your information your OK to drive. Only after a MRO has sent a positive result (labs are not part of this) to the carrier and you have been notified does it count. Stop eating Poppys now.

I got contacted by the doctor of the company which reads the sample.

I will not eat any again as long as I am driving a truck, I can promise you that.

Can the company which sent me for the test send out my info to other companies or sell it?
How much would I be spending for the attorney?

Yes, drug testing history is reported to DAC as well as to prospective new carriers once they make contact and ask. You have to sign a release, however if you don't they will trash your application. If that was a MRO that contacted you and said MRO has reported same to carrier as a positive in most situations you are disqualified from operating a CMV requiring a CDL. At some point in the future the FMCSA is going to bring a MRO positive computer database up. Hit this database and you are in heapem deep doodoo. Right now I can't advise you. Im an advocate with being honest on apps and interviews. Right now you don't have that luxury. I do wish you good luck.

The job was not for operating a vehicle requiring a cdl.

So my trucking career is over before it began?

What is DAC? I Google search is not giving me anything on the acronym.
