Hello, this is my second day with a mentor and things are not going to good he fall a sleep right next to me on the first day when he had me drive for 10 hours with a 8 hour orientation and only like 2 hours to sleep with all of that. Is this common for mentors to do this? The thing that sucks to is the load was late because I was driving slow mind I just got of cdl show when they told me to slow down if you are unsure about your skills to driver faster. The mentor also yell at me because I would not driver faster then the mph 55.

You need to contact whoever his boss is and keep the conflict minimal. If you're feeling unsafe you should mention it

I would say just bite your tongue , wait it out and be safe. MOST of the trainers have no interest in training. They want to use you as a log book, as well as have someone to play games with and complain about. Don't be the new guy that complains immediately. Commit the smart things he says (if there is anything) to memory. Forget the rest. Don't let him teach you HIS bad habits. Drive how YOU feel comfortable. When you are behind the wheel, you are the captain of that ship. Keep a daily log of things that happen just in case HE complains. If you out drive your skills and wreck the truck, worse things can and probably will happen.

Orientation should be logged as on duty not driving. So if you did 8 at orientation, you only had 6 hours left available to drive, and that is if you went straight from orientation to the truck. So thank the trainer for teaching you about your very first H.O.S violation.

If he falls asleep again... slowly pull into a rest area and nose up behind another truck REALLY CLOSE.
Then... lay down on the air horn and scream like bloody murder as if you're crashing.

He won't fall asleep on you again.

    I GUARANTEE IT.

Which would you prefer...the trainer asleep in the shotgun seat from the mental torture that is 55 mph, or the trainer yelling because of the mental torture that is 55mph?

Dont worry about him, you're actually doing a good job. Especially if thats your biggest issue.

Just saw this again and remembered never drive faster than you're comfortable with. Here's why, two nights ago I was out in this storm with blowing snow. If your first thought is that I shouldn't have been out in it you're right. Well I got passed a couple of times on this two lane road by pickups. Made my turn heading north and about three miles I saw a drift covering the entire road. Wasn't able to stop before hitting it but I drove way with only some plastic clips broken.

You may not ever see those conditions, honestly I hope you never have to, but it can be a dangerous job and if you're in a wreck because you were going too fast it'll follow you around for years

I was driving like 55-60 when I first started too. Don’t worry about it. I’d have to be pretty #### comfortable to sleep with a new driver in the seat. Just try to enjoy it. Find out quickly how to scale a load and how to back a trailer. The rest will come. Following distance beats driving slow any day.

Use the hook hang a cup over him with a pin in the bottom. Drip drip drip drip, wait a while.

It'll light him up sooner or later.
