I totally don't understand why truck drivers aren't outraged about this. We will all owe taxes if you are a company driver and doing the intelligent thing on your taxes currently. That write off is one of the only good things about being a Company Driver. It, in a small way, helps with the hours worked and the amount of money made. Every truck driver is drastically underpaid when you look at the hours worked and the personal time that you no longer have. It's just pure bs what companies pay drivers and the complete lack of respect they have for them. I'm just unfortunate enough to have a guy that loves being a truck driver. Nevermind that our lives have completely changed and now the grocery bills on top of it are double. Only to eat alone. YES, I am venting. GET A GRIP, PEOPLE. WE NEED TO WRITE TO OUR CONGRESS AND DEMAND THE WRITE OFF FOR EXPENSES IN EXTRA THAT HAVE TO BE PAID TO EAT OUT EVERY DAY! I mean it's not like you can pull your truck into a grocery store and cook everything in your truck. You have to buy the expensive milk at the truck stop. You can't, if you have a refrigerator fit much in it. Everyone is against you. All the overpriced Loves and the trucking companies that expect you to work 24/7 and now basically, any raise you might have gotten this year, wow, what did you get a .1??? Well kiss that goodbye, you can use it as toilet paper when you have to walk your ### out in 30-degree weather to find a bathroom. Because now you've all been f'd again. And no one gave anyone a jar of Vaseline. They just figured the dumb truck drivers would never notice that the government is gonna screw them over again.

How do I feel? I'm sick and tired of this crap. Things just get worse and no one does anything. Geez.

How does an ordinary company driver qualify as a Statutory W2 employee? They don't meet any of the four requirements.

    Statutory Employees

Yet another thread where Member A throws out statements and presents them as "fact". Member B respectfully asks for Member A to provide data or a link from a credible source to substantiate the statement, but Member A remains silent. So, I guess we're just supposed to take Member A's word for it. After all. If it was overheard at the Petro coffee counter from Joe Bob recounting a conversation he overheard from Larry, it must be true

Ugh! This is exhausting! Dude sounds credible, but others do too that I’ve contacted and they say the opposite... I’m exhausted by the whole thing! After figuring both ways on my taxes I will either owe about $3500 more or $300 more... ugh

The operative words in my statement were "would be if". If there was an employer that was willing to declare their employees statutory based on rule 1 and the fact thier drivers are paid piece work and responsible for expenses and if they have the fortitude to defend it in court ... or lobby Congress to make all mileage paid workers statutory.

I thought you meant it more generally than that. The subject does raise another interesting question though. I wonder if there is anything in the new tax bill that changes the circumstances under which a trucking company can classify a driver as an independent contractor. The transportation industry has long gotten away with not having to conform to the IRS rule for classifying employees for Social Security and Medicare purposes. I wonder if that changes.
