So, I Figure What the Heck,I'll try this ELD thing out.

So I call Prepass Whom Ive been with over 10 years and asked about their ELD, They Say,"its easy You buy the Plug in then download App on my Phone and your Good to go.

    FAR FROM THAT............

I Buy the Device- $150 Frickin dollars,Then another $70 dollars for the 6 to 9 pin adapet- Then I Download App- Create account and it never worked from day 1 correctly.

My Truck is a 2001 with a old round 6 pin, Engine I Believe is a Reman 1998-99 model.

I cant Log in sometimes,And when I do- It shows a White Cloud as connected- But No White Engine Icon,Only Black- It doesn't Let me go On Duty- Or Driving But a Few times only- It totally screwed my Logging up the 2 days I tried using it.

No,Iam Not electronic Savvy,Nor want to be- All I want Is a Frickin Log working right.

Customer care cant figure out WHY its not reading Engine or Letting Me change Statuses, basically, Not working properly at all

Keep a stack of paper backup logs for the days your ELD does not work. You must have logs.

You could keep that junker ELD to comply with the laws and run paper he he he. If you could not get it to work, then find another ELD that you do understand and can get to work for your particular truck.

I think your engine is not supportive of ELD.

However I am not prepared to "Bet the farm" on that. You need to find out for certain if you are legally required to have ELD or not for that particular truck.

I am not here to cause problems, but I would think in time even non compliant trucks will end up being banned because they do not carry ELD's

Yes I think heavy is right. If it’s the 99 or pre that is why u got the exemption. Will not communicate properly. At least 2 my understanding. Did they ask you what type of application (year, make, model) etc.? And also did u inform them of the older engine? I’d be asking 4 a refund. And if u wanna use a elog. Just get big road phone app. Free. Won’t be hooked into Truck but still works off gps. U just type in mileage and it is editable. I love it. Saves time over paper. And when u need 2 edit still really easy.

Just need 2 run numbers on your engine 2 verify when manufactured. If pre 99 then you are a ok!

There is info on the fmcsa website. Just search eld. I saw it somewhere before. U also are suppose 2 have proof of the engine manufacture date if exempt. Don’t have 2 carry it with you. But keep at home office Incase they check and can’t vwrify during inspection.
