That's the downside alright. Everybody in line helps the guy ahead of him. If the next to last guy takes off, the last guy gets to work all by himself.
Some guys like that though. They'd actually prefer that nobody help them tarp.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

I personally like to do it myself because I'm particular and if it looks like cap I will redo it cause it's embarrassing to have a crappy looking tarp job and crossing the country letting everyone know you did that. I had a drop and hook that was already running late and did not have time to retarp the trailer that I picked up. The driver that tarped it had the tarp backwards lol. It was the most embarrassing 922 miles of my life.

    You said a mouthful there.

Anyone that works open deck should have a system of work that is efficient. Don't be the one that farts at the dinner party. Drivers behind you need to get unloaded or loaded as well.

I didn’t sit much on flatbed at Swift because I could call a planner for a van load or a reefer load. I got tired of the loads always being the same thing at the same 3 places. Never really had to sit much though. Most of the time you won’t be sitting waiting to load or unload. What you have on deck is almost always time sensitive and you’ll find that they have you unloaded before you can fold your tarps and throw the straps and chains in the box.

    Airborne and Gonzo1300 Thank this.

IIRC they threw $50 at me twice so I could get a hotel(In San Diego yea right!!!) and that was it. I was fortunate that I spent several years in SD in the Navy,so I had plenty of contacts. That was the straw that broke the camels back. 2 loads later I was turning in the truck in Tulsa. To be fair this was 15+ years ago,but I still talk to the occasional Melton driver and it doesn't sound like much has changed.
