So basically at 70-80k it’s better to keep the company truck

I think it's kinda what works for you. Keep in mind he's buying a truck at the same time and I don't believe you're gonna make 80K as company driver running the schedule he was running.

From my understanding, he's netting a bit more than we're grossing. And I don't think he runs too hard. The problem is the huge cost of purchasing the truck.

There are definitely days I wished I stayed company just so someone else would have to deal with the headache of truck ownership. I miss writing up a problem and someone else taking care of it while I go home and relax.

I haven't run hard at all this year. I did one month on the road in a single stretch over the summer but that was an easy dedicated run that paid $$$. If I had run hard I'd be over 100k miles and have grossed 30-40k more. But I really wasn't interested in being away from home 250+ days....lifes too short to waste it driving a #### truck all the time.

Yeah, I was just noting you can make a lot more money than a company driver while working less days. Just the cost of a truck is so high.

Thanks for thread, this answers a lot of questions for me as I prepare to retire from the Army and choose a second career. Can you invest in 401k through Superior? I doubt they'd match anything, but it could cut down on tax burden.

    Sunday pay?
Are company drivers paid extra for driving on Sunday? If so, is that unique to Superior?

Some shippers are charged extra for weekend/holiday delivery, company drivers wont see that but IC's will.

    100.00% OF FUEL SURCHARGE - C 360.91
    100.00% OF STANDARD PUMP 35.00
    100.00% OF SUNDAY-HOLIDAY WORK 225.00
    62.00% OF LINEHAUL 467 505 1278.64
    38.00% OF TOLLS 76.68

Looking back to the beginning of this adventure and you had to do it all over again knowing the potential headache of a used truck with lots of shop time and costs . Would you do it the same way again? Or would you find a way to purchase a new truck by maybe hauling as company driver for another year or two before starting as an IC?

    Just curious :)
