We run both reefer and dry van and I haven't found reefer loads resulting in longer hauls just longer wait times. It is really going to be dependent on the company and their main customers though. Our usual reefer loads are from 300-600 miles. There are some 2k milers, but those are mostly given to teams due to time contraints.

I pulled a reefer for a while before I retired. It is not all beer and skittles either. Cranky Reefer units can be a serious problem along with loose belts slapping metal inside the unit. If you ever make the mistake of allowing a reefer to ever run out of fuel most of the time you have to have a mechanic come out to replace the reefer fuel filter because you just sucked all the crap out of the bottom of the tank. Try being out west in 100+ temps watching that ice cream load start melting waiting on that guy to get there. Oh, did I speak of having to go unload in the middle of the morning because a lot of food warehouses only unload then. Also get used to ALL NIGHT long being shook as the reefer starts and quits. The day you fail to hop up in the trailer and actually look to make sure no blood is on the floor will be the day that trailer fails an inspection and the nearest washout is an hour away. If you want to pull reefers good for you, but if you do you had better put your big guy pants on. It can be a very unforgiving job.
