mine is 625/2250 all stock, even turbo. Premium red top. Still stock turbo. added pyro gauge. I did not really gain mpg but didn't loose any. Originally 435/1650 then had Cummins turn it up to 525/1850. That gained .5mpg. Now going 625/2250 you can really feel. In light daycab with 185 inch wheel base it makes a lot of yellow motors in large cars take a second look when it passes them.

You all seem to know what you are talking about so maybe I can get some knowledgeable info here. I’ve got a plus that is supposedly set at 485. While the motor pulls good, if I get a bad headwind it isn’t happy. I just put new injectors, cups, top end gaskets, and head resurfaced this past spring. I don’t want my motor “fretting” (whatever that means) but I’d like to pull some more power from it before I start otr with it and going through mountains. I’m looking to replace the 9 speed in it with an 18, and I believe it has 3:42 rears. Just looking for some info on this motor. Not trying to sound like a noob

First thing you need to know is what the torque is set at. It could be anything from 1550 to 1850 lb of torque . Horsepower ratings aren't really enough to tell why your truck doesn't pull that great.

Fretting is when the main caps start wearing against the block, therefore creating an issue of decreased main bearing clearance to support the crankshaft. About 1850 is bout all you really want to go on a N14, otherwise you may end up getting main cap fretting due to the extra torque and stress on the crankshaft.

Should pull hills good at that rpm. The 18 would help you a bit in the big hills but really at that rpm your shouldn't have to downshift a whole lot in any case on rolling hills or heavy wind.
