What exactly is your complaint? You can state it without bashing him or the company. If you tell us what exactly you’re upset with we can help you come up with the best way to solve the issue(s).

 

My trainer at tmc say on the front seat for the first 3 days until he felt a was good enough, then he sat in the back on his phone with his girlfriend, then later his wife. After 2 weeks out and progressing well, he started sleeping at night while I drive till I felt I needed to stop. After 4 weeks we team drove, one week I'd be nights and him days, then the final week we swapped. When i finished my training he said that I was one of his best students.

His problem is he hasn't adjusted to trucking yet.

 

If 10 hours of driving is “too much”, you’re not gonna last long. Welcome to trucking, I’d kill for a day where I only worked 10-11 hours...

 

The reason I did not talk about teaming much is because in my time any time we had two in a truck, we built a full team and ran the hell out of that truck to the max. There is nothing from my experience to handhold people for 10 hours a day limited to just a bit of backing etc.

I was very careful with my spouse when it was my time to train her. I never put anything that she could not handle and was prepared to get up and get to driving if something came up that is a problem. Eventually she was a very good team driver, but had certain... limitations which I took on cheerfully for the good of the load. If anyone has been married at all in life, there is a understanding that sometimes spouses are the most difficult of any student if they choose not to listen.

May Trucking Company does not allow their trainers to sleep while you are driving. They actually sit beside you and instruct you the entire time, at least they did a few years ago. There might be other companies out there who do this but I haven't heard of any. Could be something for a new driver to look into.

 

Trucking school can be a joke. But YOU are the one attending. I hope that YOU got something out of it, obviously if you hold a CDL it taught you enough to get it from the State which is about what it's expected of it. Nothing more.

Trucking school isnt the hallowed halls of the mountain king where only the chosen ever pass and see him. /sarcasm... It's a shame they have gotten so expensive. I venture a guess that learning aviation general would be a little bit cheaper and better instruction because it has to be.

IF the trainer is Mr blah blah blah on that phone and not attentive to YOU (Aside from very narrow focused calls related to the truck, load or HOS etc between the two of you and company office) then you need to find another trainer. When I train, I focus on you and hopefully you do well. Most of my time is spent waiting for you to make a mistake. Then we find the root cause and fix it. It is my hope that no one else has had a hold of you as a ... looks for words.. virgin student from school. It's because you have no bad habits yet. Follow me?
