I’m hoping someone can offer me advice on this issue. I am currently working for prime. I started almost 3 weeks ago. If everything goes well I will be done with TNT sometime in early March. My wife and I are expecting our first child sometime in the middle of April. I realize that the first year you work at prime you don’t get any vacation. I plan on calling my dispatcher when I get one but I figured for now I would come on here and see if anyone has any experience with having to go home for the birth of a child and how it will most likely work with the company. Thank you.

My eggs are rotten and dehydrated. Can’t tell you from my view.. but, I’d talk to my dispatch and someone from the home office and tell them your situation. You might be able to get some leave. Technically, since you haven’t been there a year yet; you are not probably eligible for any, but, they might work with you...

I think men get some kind of paternity leave. Not sure how much. Call your HR department.

Likely you will just need to take a leave of absence. Take the truck home and clean it out, drop truck off at terminal and go home. Call company when you are ready to come back to work.
This is company policy question though, so the only real answer is to call HR and see what the options are.

Also, WTF kind of person are you to start a new career over the road 4 months before the birth of the first child? Let us know where you live (City, as well as state) so we can point you to local companies...

To qualify for FMLA you have to be employed with your company for a year. You'll have to work out an arrangement with Prime, good luck to you and congrats!

I don't know of any company on earth too mean to not let you out to visit your new child.

I think you better be prepared to compromise with your bosses. Perhaps leaving the truck secured and lawful parked, flying home on your own dime to visit then come fly back to the truck to get going.

Not getting vacation for a year doesn’t mean that you can’t take leave. It just means you won’t get paid. If you have a kid on the way and you need time off, tell the travel agent that you will be taking leave.Crappier company will require you to clean your truck out. The better companies will allow you to keep your truck.

NOTE: If you take a leave of absense, they will fire you and ruin your DAC if they find out that you took other employment. Had a friend that was works at GreatWide, took leave for an “injury”. While on leave, he took a job with Daily. Daily and GreatWide compared notes and he got burned by both.

Thanks everyone for the quick reply. I’ll call HR and see what their thoughts are. I started this job because being a captain wasnt steady pay and it wasn’t good pay even when it was steady. I live in Tarpon Springs, FL. Looked around at some local companies but most required experience. I always had an interest in trucking and I’m hoping I can support my family better financially.

You have no shame do you? Seriously to put out a question like that, in a manner like that. Please at the very least act as though you have some class. Smh
