Looking for a new job and of course they want to see a list of previous DOT drug test employers for the last 2 (or is it 3) years. OK, seems simple enough. What if one of the previous companies has gone out of business and you have no contact info not even a phone number? No email response either.

Is it better to just leave it off the list? Or be 100% truthful and hope for the best?

Some companies might refuse to hire if they can’t contact the company to verify the previous drug test history.

No, I did not fail any drug tests there but I don’t want to open up a situation where they can’t confirm that and then won’t even hire me.

That form always asks for the phone number and fax number. I don’t have a working number or any other means of contact.

Isn't there a database with ALL of the DOT drug test results for:

Anyone designated by Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations as a “safety-sensitive employee” is subject to DOT drug & alcohol testing. This includes the following industries:

    • Aviation – the FAA
    • Commercial Motor Carriers – the FMCSA
    • Maritime – the USCG
    • Pipeline – PHMSA
    • Railroads – FRA
    • Transit – FTA

I had many companies go out of business in my history. There has been NO problem with that time accounting because it's accounting for the time. It's a little inconvient when they cannot call anyone there to check, but sometimes a bad DAC left behind by the out of business is enough to convince the recruiter that yep, it did exist. Given enough years the DAC cleared out.

Ive been out of the industry medically since 2009, that was the last time I touched a big truck for wages. A recent check of my relevant history to myself shows that I will be treated like a newbie regardless of 30 years around big rigs. It wont take long to show that I have not lost skills related to the actual doing.

My worst problem would be the new HOS situation. Mandatory breaks imposed on a my mindset that you only stop to get fuel, shower and eliminate waste. Everything else you GO.

I would advise you not to be concerned with the drug tests, you did not fail any so there is NO problem anywhere. The "System" and "They" (Who is this They?) tracking very very closely drug tests, drug prescriptions issued to you if any the moment you buy at a pharmacy has gotten really orwellian. If you fail a drug test at any time in your life time here on out it is a domiciles sword that will kill your chances of succes in the trucking industry.

If you know of anyone personally engaged in illegal drugs at all in your life, MAKE sure you cut them OUT completely. They are parasites and now present to you a threat against your future success in trucking.

This is stupid, If a company asked for my drug tests for the past, I would have to ask why are they interested in them and would not help them get them. There is no insurance requirement for a review of drug tests, there is no fmcsa regulation for a new hires.

As for a central database, we have enough bs with the us dot/fmcsa regulating us as if we were pilots, except pilots don't have it as hard.

Hand, all you can do is list the company as you legally are required. If there is room make a note the company is no longer in business. Stop worrying over that you can not control. Remember the FMCSA does not say you can't drive with employment history gaps. All you are required to do is account for gaps. Then after do what the company asks. If you can't take your CDL to another more reasonable carrier.

I agree it is a bit stupid. However if a carrier asks you to sign a release so they can get drug testing history and you refuse to do it, we both know what happens next.

It was a non-FMSCA job but it was still a DOT drug test. So nope, HireRight most likely has no history for this job/employer. That was why I listed all the different job areas that are required to do DOT drug tests. It was under that category, just not a trucking job.

Hire Right has all the data from individuals failed drug testing. Obviously, the need to know is required by Potential Employers.

Yeah but unless that carrier is handing out weekly checks with $5000 on them, then I would tell them to simply *********.

It gets rather ridiculous to think that with the half million or so carriers out there that only one of them is worth this headache.

Not the point. If any driver has took the time to submit an app it means they are looking for that job. If a release is put in front of them they have a choice. Sign it or go home.

The driver doesn't provide past D/A tests, the former employer does.( if subject to them).
