Hey all, I now have my CDL-A recently grad from Houston Community College.... I no before I land a good job where I'll be in a smaller company 2/300 trucks I'll have to put a year in OTR with a bigger company with not the best pay or most family friendly environment. What advice or suggestions would y'all all give as to a new driver friendly company where I can go solo and have my best friend with me i.e...... my dog.... I'm looking at going OTR but would prefer for have 5/6 days off in a row with Little hastle monthly.... to work on my property in East Texas.... I have no vehicle so a company that would allow me to take truck home would be perfect. I'm willing to sacrifice on pay as long as I can live in my truck and have 5/6 days off in a row and bring my dog along.... any advice would help. Thank y'all!!!

Schneider and Roehl Transport have the flex work schedule, but no pets and must pass hair follice drug test.
Here's some choices though that have pet policy:
Schuster - nations largest ice cream hauler. I remember several months ago a new cdl grad in Houston was hired by Schuster.
Danny Herman Trucking - no Northeast and most freight lanes are below I-40. Run lots of Texas border towns and as far west as Calexico,CA and that area.
Melton Truck Lines - flatbed & runs 48 states.
Paul Transportation - flatbed, probably seen them around the Texas oil fields.
    Titan Transfer - dry van
Contract Freighters - dry van running 48 states.
    Navajo Express
    Abilene Motor Express
    Freymiller
    - www.drive4freymiller.com - Click on "Restore Program" which is for new cdl grads.
FFE (Frozen Food Express) - Dallas based.
All the above hire new cdl grads, even if website has "experience required", so apply anyway if you like the company.

If your main goal is to make money it doesn't matter from where which company you get your experience as long as you have the experience or get experience. If your goal is to make most money never go with the big companies go with the company that have no more than 5-10 trucks they will pay the most never accept any pay less than $0.50 a mile. I'm new too with less than a 1yr experience but I make the most money by being smart

What kind of benefits package & accessorial pays does that company have?
I was making $65K with being paid $.36 cents per mile because of the accessorial pays. Excellent health insurance and a retirement plan.
My worst experience in my career was with a small company. Not everyone has a bad experience, but I'll never risk that again.

Pugs fail at everything. It's only fitting they should be tested before entering a semi.

@John-Casen hey bro you might not have to go otr. there's plenty of companies that will take you. As a right now since Old Dominion just opened their new terminal near hwy 288 and beltway 8 they really need drivers bad, I was told by one old dominion trainers that they will take you right out of school and you will have to go thru their training as well. Also check out labatt food, mclane, grocer supply, sygma, vocar freight, southwestern freight, and beer companies as well. Also like @Chinatown says ignore the experience just apply the worst they can say is no.

    Good luck to you.
