Ik..Heres the scoop...
Some of you know what i run but ill give ya all the scoop anyways..Stryker 955 tuned by hard drive, lmr 240 with amphonal ends and a ranger mic all gettin out via a 7ft skip shooter
For ages i had range and ant issues in a volvo and now in a cascadia..They are pretty much sorted out and im happy again..
So for awhile i wanted and actually had my name in for a 955xxx but decided i didnt need or want the power of a BIG radeooo...Well now my mind has changed yet again...I want more power, but thats the problem..
Thought about a 2970n4 but changed my mind cause i was told ill miss the ears of my 955..Again i thought a 955xxx but its a hefty price so then i came to the idea of adding a amp to my 955.....
Thing is i dont know squat other than its more $,some more headaches with connections and grounds n such..
I think i would like a seperate linier vs a built on one like the xxx or an n4 so i would like some suggestions with some pros n cons if possible....Gimmie somthin to work with...
Dont know how high in ppwer i wanna go but i know i dont wanna get rf burn if i put a body part to close to anythin....Dont know why but a tx star 667 sticks with me and its in the area of wattage i would be interested in...
So all you smart feller, shoot some suggestions in the air..
I want more power..

That looks like it would be a great amp. 650 watts out with 20 watts drive from the radio, not bad. It must be built very well since it’s designed to handle CW.

Whats cw?

Continues Wave, Morse code.
I've got a 11kw amp if you want, we can gut the sleeper, install the radio station sized amp and put a huge generator on the cat walk to run it.Streetroddreams and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
Ridgeline..DONE DEAL!!

That Stryker May have too much input for a 1x4 like a Texas Star 667. I would personally go with a competition built 4 pill class C box that will draw less amps and have a built in fan. It will also easily handle the Stryker, and when some people tell you they are splatter boxes, thats not the case if they are tuned correctly.
The key is sufficient grounding, and ample enough power wire and power supply. That TS667 won’t get you 650 watts either, maybe 550 on a good day. If you do go with a Texas Star, a dx500 would probably be the better choice.iron horse 128 Thanks this. -
Best bang for the buck if it's not too late.
They'll be gone forever really soon.

I too had this desire for power. I had run some small two pills and a four pill for a awhile and decided to go bigger and then my problems got bigger. What I learned for my quest for power is you will have a bigger need for good grounding. I purchased a 2970N4 and put it in my F150 and my SWR's went through the roof. So my quest for grounding began. I was using a Mag mount before and now I need to upgrade to a hard mount through the roof. Then I need to more grounding . So, I removed ,cleaned and replaced all factory grounds from frame to body. Then I installed a ground from the negative on the battery to frame. then I installed four additional ground straps from body to frame. Now my SWR's are good. But, still not getting out as far as I expected to. My point being is with more power comes more issues to solve.

That’s why I prefer a hand built class C. Sure it has less filtering, but the output tune can be pretty linear without too much distortion. I have a fat boy 2 pill that has more reflect than my 2x4 switchblade which was built nearby. I told Blade to make it produce clean power, and it does a superb job on the meter and talking skip.
I put a switchblade 4 pill with my Connex 4300 hp, and a predator 10k. I didn’t hardly ground the mount except for a small wire to the door bolt, the amp was run with about 15 feet of 8 gauge to the batteries, and it never interfered with anything in the truck. I talked all over the country and it stayed cool. Normally I should have run flat braid ground, bonded the body, etc but it wasn’t necessary.MACK E-6 Thanks this.
