Hello all, I am thinking of TMC, how are they for east coast or my area? I am new to tractor trailer drivng(just finished school in September) but have been driving Class "B" trucks for years. Mostly box and dump trucks but have some experience with straight flatbed work when I was with Lowes.

I have read good and bad about this company but think that goes for any company, some will hate it some will love it. I think I would like flatbed work as I never had a straight truck job that just kept you in the cab, I don't mind working and actually like being in the elements.

I filled out the application online and they messaged back to call them to start processing if I was still interested, I am almost 100% sure. Any advice or help is appreciated.

New Jersey is all right for TMC. I passed through Jersey many times on my way home to Maine so you shouldn't have any problems getting home. There is even a dedicated operation based in Kearny I think, so with that you can be home every night, of course you need to get some experience over the road before they will take you on at that dedicated deal.

I live in south Jersey right near Philly, Kearny I assume would go into NYC a lot too. But I guess as a rookie I would be getting less than desirable runs anyhow, having to put in your dues and such. I think I will chose Linehaul over Longhaul if I could.

Well it took almost 3 weeks but I am finally scheduled to go to orientation on December 29th, they wanted me to go on the 15th but I asked if the 29th was ok since it gives me more time to prepare and not have to worry about the Xmas week. They said no problem.

I was worried for awhile cause it seemed like forever for the approval to go through, I called my recruiter daily since last Friday to find out, hope i didn't bug him too much, lol. But I was always told when applying for a job bug them till they hire ya or tell you to go away. Plus I am currently unemployed and without unemployment benefits and money is running out.

I will be going to Des Moines also as I feel it might be a bit better. Rawlco you said you flew to Des Monies, did you buy a round trip airfare or one way? I assume one way. I am not crazy enough to ride the bus for 24 + hours.

Dec 29th is when I'm expecting to start in Des Moines myself, I'll let you know. My application has already been approved by the hiring committee so it's just a matter of finishing up school locally which is scheduled to end somewhere between the 21st and 23rd.

I bought a one way ticket. Assuming you get hired TMC will take care of all your transportation needs after that. My bus ride from Maine was going to be 49 hours with long layovers like 5 hours in Boston and 9 hours in New York City. TMC gave me the money they would have spent on the bus ticket.

We will have to ask Photolurp if they helped him out with the trip home where he was not hired and sent home.

Good luck on your test. When I took my CDL A test I went with 6 others, I was the last to test, myself and the the 1st guy to test were the only ones to pass, seeing the other 4 fail before me got me worried but I just sucked it up and did it.

Yeah let me me know, I have to call the recruiter and set up my travel arrangements and everything on the 22nd.

Ok I will start looking for a one way ticket. I rode a Greyhound a few times for 4 hours and that was enough, lots of strange characters on them, lol. The recruiter also said they will pay $150.

I hope I can make it through, I might not be the best in anything but I don't give up easily and willing to learn. From what I read they are strict and i guess I will start brushing up on things before I get there.

Some of the recent updates from others there said people were let go cause they party at the bar and don't like being told what to do baffles me. I mean its basically a interview and you wouldn't show up to a interview drunk so why tempt fate here? Plus you know they are watching. I'll be there during new years and I don't plan to drink at all, when theres something to celebrate like getting the job I'll drink then and at home.

Maybe its the youth and they don't understand or care but last time I checked lots of people are losing there jobs and the economy is hurting big time, to have a decent paying steady job is gold right now.

Hey FirNaTine, where did u go to school? Was it in Cherry Hill? If so we were there at the same time.

Congrats on being accepted. I'm currently in the review process. Should hear something today. Maybe I'll see you at orientation.

Oh yea, I almost forgot, you should ride the bus. It's a true adventure. I had a 27 hour bus ride home from Columbia Missouri. It was very interesting. A true once in a lifetime experience.

I had a friend go with TMC out of school. He flew out to Des Moines and they got him a rental car to come home after orientation while he waited to meet his trainer.
