Going back OTR with Crete

From what I read it sounded like you didn’t get any choice of loads at all. Must’ve gotten my lines crossed somehow. I’m not the spring chicken I used to be.

 

When I 1st started working here we all got 3 load offers to choose from & it was really nice but around 09 when the economy took a plunge, they had a hard time keeping us busy. They stopped even accepting owner operators & took the 3 load offers away from us all. A few years ago they brought back the 3 offers for owner operators.

Question. Do they allow you to choose your own routing and fuel stops or do they have a fuel solution you have to follow? Only rule about fuel that my last company had was that we had to fuel at either pilot or flying J. It didn’t matter which ones.

 

There is suggested routing and fuel stops, but provided that you don't abuse the flexibility or make your load late by taking a stupid route, they don't care much about routing.

For instance, I absolutely refuse to get close to NYC during daylight hours unless absolutely necessary. I have routed through Scranton, PA, many times, adding 50+ miles to routes taking me into Massachusettes or Maine.

As for fuel stops, there is a trick. Call your asset manager and tell them the next place you want to fuel (town not exact location) and they will send you a new fuel routing. You might have to do this a couple times if you are heavily deviating from your provided routing.

If you don't ask for re-routing of fuel stops, Crete starts getting annoyed when you fall below 90 percent compliant.

 

I don't know what Ozark does if you miss fuel stops. One week I missed 3 out of 4. I had my head up my arse that week and wasn't paying attention. By the time I came to I was 3 exits past it, the other two I couldn't find. I could find the Peelot, but not the Flying J because their #### signs aren't illuminated very well and every time it was pouring down rain at this one FJ at this one exit. I just fueled wherever I wanted to, every time. Never heard a thing.

Is it hard to get hired by crete? I put in an application last week and was told I wouldnt know if I was hired til the end of the week? I have over a year of experience...I am still driving as we speak...its not like I dont have a cdl or dont have a job...does it usually take long if your coming into the company from another major company? and is crete prejudice?
