In the past I just set it and go...never had a problem. Either way will work. If you slowly ratchet the temp down it will be easier on the reefer unit, but in my experience no matter what you do you can't change the pulp temp by more than maybe 1 degree per day. And with the units of today no need to worry about freezing the outside or top layer...they won't shoot out frozen air unless set below about 26 or so. Old reefers did do this and you could freeze the top layer of whatever you were hauling but new ones push the air out at exactly the desired temp when you're in the range of about 26-40. The produce range they call it. All these parameters can be set by a reefer mechanic.

You're set then. As long as its in writing. The shipper isnt screwing you, the receiver will take it.. just curious..is the receiver a processor?

So... After 11.5 hours I'm finally loaded with 60 bins. The loader told me they were under 700lbs each. He weighs the last one and it's 847lbs. Now I know I'm over weight. I tell them I'm 36600 empty and need to take some off and they say not until they see a scale ticket. So I go to the scale and I'm 82,200... About 1700 over on both the drives and trailer and I'm in California, so I have to have the trailer tandems slid up. I get back and they tell me because of my pissed off attitude they won't touch it till the next day. I called the broker at home and told him he needs to find another truck tomorrow and to expect a bill for $400...
Avoid Sunwest Fruit in Parlier, CA unless you like getting jerked around and mistreated. You've been warned.

    #### like this never makes sense. Its like the shipper isnt in biz to make money, just to #### with drivers when the mistakes their own fault.

Im guessing the buyer purchased x weight of oranges from the shipper, the shippers staff didnt know or care how much weight your trailer could hold, tried to force the issue, got rebuffed on the weight but couldnt or didnt want to try to change the po with the receiver and just said its your fault for trying to follow the law. Wonder if the shippers management staff knew about this ####up if someone on staff would get the ax

    Hell no.

Whatever the shipper says you run that reefer at, 40 it looks like, run it at that temp.

We hauled oranges out of Fort Laurdale Fla into the NE a number of times, specialized in it actually.

So what if the reefer blew up or died. You can yank the whole thing at a Thermoking or Carrier etc in a hour and drop the new one in and GO.

You will be fine. Enjoy the Oranges they might toss into your cab. Fights off scurvy.

Read your post again.. Sunwest Fruit had the ability to weigh each bin but didn't and just assumed they're correct weight...then weighed the last bin..and said #### it...your problem now...that level of incompetence is beyond the pale
