So I am going north on i-25 heading into Cheyenne and at exit 7 is the port of entry where I pull in, park, and bring in my license insurance and registration. Simple enough.

Then I have to pass through every big city there is in Wyoming making deliveries. Cheyenne, Laramie, Casper, and Gillette. Every one of these places has another dang port of entry.

The one in Gillette especially is a pain, takes me miles out of route to get to. Sign on the highway says all commercial trucks must exit to port of entry. Then several miles down that road is another sign saying point of entry this way, then that way.

If I stop at the one when entering Cheyenne then do I need to stop at every single one every time I pass by one of these places? There is one in Casper where I have to pass by twice in order to make all my deliveries there. On the chance that dot sees my passing by one of these places would it be the same as bypassing a regular old weight station?

You need to think of them as a weigh station. Sometimes they are closed. And once you go to one and show them your paperwork the rest of the port of entry should not make you stop. But if they want to they will. All Wyoming citys are not very big.
But you will need to enter all of them when open. Unless you have prepass and are cleared to bypass.

Basically if you see a sign saying to stop you must stop. Next time you go in ask them and they will explain it to you.

Some of the most frequently asked questions we hear, along with the answers, are listed here. We hope we cover the information you require most.

    Q. Do I have to stop at all ports in the State of Wyoming?

    A. You are required to stop anytime you see a regulatory sign (black letters on a white background) instructing you to stop or an officer has directed you to stop. Pre-pass vehicles which receive an in-cab green light may continue, providing they are not hauling livestock or do not have an oversize or overweight load. Example of POE signage:

    • All commercial Vehicles
    • Transport operators
    • Livestock haulers, and
    • Deliveries into Wyoming
*All must stop at the Port of Entry.

    Q. Why did that vehicle get the green light and I had to come in?

    A. The green light is primarily given to vehicles that we know are properly qualified since they come through the location quite often. The green light may also be used when the port officer is busy with other duties. Always remember if you receive the green light you may proceed providing the vehicle is properly qualified and is legal size & weight.

    Q. Why was I chosen for an inspection?

    A. Trucks and drivers are chosen for inspection on a random basis. Remember, the more times your log books or vehicles are inspected, and found in order, the better chance your company has to improve their safety rating.

    Q. What can I do if I have a good/bad experience at a port of entry?

    A. If you have comments (positive or negative) about your contact with and individual or port, please contact the Wyoming Highway Patrol at this email: WHP.Customer.Comments@wyo.gov or simply write a letter and address it to Wyoming Highway Patrol 5300 Bishop Boulevard Cheyenne, WY 82009-3340

I think the one off I90 for Gillette isn’t a mandatory stop one: can’t temember; yes it says port of entry, but, only if you are getting off that exit: I can’t remember.....

Wyoming is like every other port of call on the High Seas. Its a stop on your sailing itinerary. You get some shore leave and make it back on board before departure time.

If going by Gillette on I-90 there is not a sign saying you must stop so you don't have to stop. The side roads around there (Highway 50, 59, and Garner Lake Road) all have signs saying you must stop.

    Why?

Because in the old days, they used to have a hassle of collecting fuel taxes with trucks passing through.

I've never stopped at the one by Casper if I'm going north or south, I think that's if you're heading west on 20/26.
