Like we don't wreck a truck every 10 minutes somewhere in the country. I bet there safety record will be 1000 times better than ours.

So you're going to have a driver sitting there doing nothing but watching the scenery go by and he's going to maintain enough alertness to take over when the SHTF?

Not to mention you're going to have a guy sitting there NOT maintaining his skills enough to take over when the SHTF?

Or you're going to have a newbie sitting there watching the scenery go by who hasn't even developed any skills yet and he's going to take over when the SHTF?

    Yeah, good luck with that.

I hope you’re right on it not happening, at least not in my lifetime. I’m been freaking out about this happening because the time frame they’re hoping to get it up and running is right around when I’d be getting my cdl and trying to get into trucking. I posted a thread about this exact topic and a lot of people agree with you on how they’re trying to keep self driving trucks on the road and keep them from having accidents but they haven’t really talked about what happens after one has or causes a major accident.

I feel like that was the same reasoning with the first automobile, that it was safer and would have fewer accidents. It’s a long time later and automobiles still have accidents. Yeah it could just be human error, but I feel like technology fails and I feel like while this sounds like a good idea and could eliminate accidents and human error that it still has bugs that need to be worked out, and a lot of different things to take into consideration.

If you have ever flown in a commerical airline, 747, then you have probably experienced a automated take off and landing, very smooth, the pilot takes over after the plane is on the ground. We expect them to remain alert.
Cattle prod to the groin, hmmm, dont know.

Is the take off and landing automated too? I assumed it was just the in air cruising portion and that they still had to control the take off and landing.

Yep and the first segment of the industry to buy into this big time will be the LTL line haul segment and those 100K terminal to terminal jobs.

That’s a good point. But even with the autopilot and all that planes still have accidents. That’s what I worry about too. I hope like others have said it’s just hype and it’s still years or decades off.
