Me too.
Me too.YuP.
I tend to agree.
I begat my drivin' career in late summer, as I recall.
And when I went team, it was with a co-driver with all-season experience, just not OTR experience, --- not another graduated trainee.
He taught me a LOT about the operation of Big trucks.
But had I had inferior trainers (which I didn't) and teamed with another newBee, (which I didn't), I shutter to imagine that situation on a windy, snowy, Wyoming highway in white-out conditions
After gaining skill and confidence drivin' on the dry roads, I was ready to dive into the wet ones. I'll admit, there were times when I was up on the wheel, and well puckered, --- but I had enough sense to keep my wits about me. A cool head in cold weather is a good thing to have.
I think the experience driving in better weather
can get a driver ready for the winter wonders.
Why did I get declined?

That is great you had good luck getting trained properly in driving winter conditions. For me I am from south Texas so I pretty much have very limited winter experience. Heck, I only own one pair of jeans and they don't fit LOL. I drove through some icy snowy conditions before but I know it can and will get a lot worse then what I drove through. My uncle has driven for 20+ years and he has been giving me some tips on many things. I told him about my DAC issue and he seems to think it was just a dumb generic denial letter.

I live in Southern California.
WhAT's winter?
But I remember the FIRST time I encountered icy roads, --- it was in Van Horne, TEXAS. Pullin' doubles.
Hailin' like HaiL, and my unheated mirrors were frozen ice. Couldn't even see if my traliers were tryin' to pass me.
That's when and where I learned what they mean when they say
Drivin' By The Seat Of Your Pants.
You REALLY do.
You FEEL what's goin' on under, behind and above.
or
Too small?
With head hung out the driver's side window, and not even being able to see the steps to get into the Big truck, just LISTENING for ANY sounds that don't sound right.
OH!
And ice freezes the windshield wipers so they don't scrape, if they work at all.
And thick fog. -
Actually, my jeans are to BIG....Ive actually have lost 98 pounds. Ive just never gone out to buy some new jeans since I don't use them down here.
That is exactly what my uncle has said to me about his bad winter experiences and yes that driving by your pants saying is very true from what I hear. I don't know if I am crazy but I kind of look forward to experiencing that when I am ready that is. But I'm sure I will be dreading it after a few times the trailer tries to pass me LOL. That is what I like about the trucking field is that you do get to experience a lot of different situations. -
What sounds, and IS, scary sounding, ---
once actually encountered, can revert to concern, and is easer to deal with than fear.
Once you've experienced inclement conditions a few times, it gets easier.
Same with mountains.
But, I SWEAR, I will NEVER get used to crossing the
Macinaw Bridge!!
Even in CLEAR weather with NO wind. -
