Yep, I remember a few fuel stops like that, Little America comes to mind. And that little fuel stop in God knows where, I cannot remember, the guy fueled and parked the truck, went in and got a free T Bone steak and a thermos of coffee... I miss those days, and it was a good steak. ;-)

When I started in '91 if other tractors were on the fuel island, we just left it in line and the fuelers would take care of things and park it for you. Walmart wanted us to to do it that way so we could eat, shower and get back on the road. When Mr. Sam died, that also died.

Yea, and by the time I finally left, we were washing, fueling, vacuuming, waiting on dispatch, giving up extra waiting time, switching trailers at Sams and WM,s, ALL for free! Now, they are being taken to court for not paying us. Too bad for them?

I was talking with an original Green Castle guy that was running teams. He said they came in from the west coast just covered in salt, dirt, road dust. Fueled in Cullman asked them if they had time for him to wash it.

An hour later he said you could have eaten off the cat walk. Can barely get them to wash them on a service now :(

Yeah I think losing the fuel guys sucks but I can see why they did it. It's all about the $$. Rumor has it the reason why they laying off inbound inspectors is because of law suits evolving falsifying inspections that involved in accidents. It's just gonna be all on the driver now.
I'm not sure about other DC's but here in the south their inspections were 90% spot on from what I inspect. I'd see them changing out stuff all the time. Now look at how much down time you will have when you roll up on a flat, lights, brakes, etc etc. Then john doe, Jane doe, is overy at the shop too so you lose 2+hrs of wait time, now the 1400 delivery is gonna be late and the 1600 delivery beats you. Either way somebody is gonna have to wait awhile for an Empty. Be prepared cause the 50-75% 14/hr days are gonna come.

Layoffs to our guys that inbound the trailers happening now at our DC, it on us now to inspect the trailer and report it to the shop. I plan to move on as well i do not want to share a truck with 3 other drivers on the 5/2 5/3 program.

We did not lay off anyone. But we have been light anyways.

PTI has always been on the driver though. Between inbound and outbound that trailer is handled 2-6 times. Not like we have nails curbs (6024 has more mud flaps laying around than the Pilot in Cayce) impatient yard dogs dragging tires..........

With the DVIR going onto the people net management needs to track trailers that are dropped with issues that were not reported. I have the feeling some folks are going to be just a lazy on inspections as they have always been.

I'll .miss the fuel guys on go home. Because I could be detailing the truck while they fueled, but through the week I would rarely wait on them and start fueling myself. Got yelled at at 6017 and 6024 more than once. Hey get out here in a timely manner and I won't be doing your job.

Most of the HVDCs were already self fuel. Only one I can think of is 7055 that had a fueler/washer. I think 7030 did but have not been there in years.

    Coover Thanks this.

We are only losing one fueler because that's all his job was. The techs used to rotate fueling if they weren't busy.

Yeah that is all we ever had was tech ones doing trailer work would come out and fuel you. By the time they logged out of their repair, logged on to fuel island, and walked out I was done and pulling out of the fuel bay.

And if they were out on the yard moving a trailer forget it. They may be 15-20 minutes to get back.
