you fail to see the point. How can it be theft when or grand theft when i was assigned to the truck? I just went out of route. i'm still employeed at the time i agreed to go 'team'. Therefore i still have the legal right to be in that truck driving it. I just happened to get 'lost'. What happens is i drive myself home. call the company, and tell them i quit. then the driver left is now a solo driver who is now going to be asked, go team or lease or quit. Sorry...company isnt going to hang me out to dry 500 miles from home with all my crap in the truck.

You're right, that is why the country is screwed up....it is because they ARENT looking out for and taking care of themselves. We are so screwed up becuse we think it is our business to go stick our nose in where it dont belong (iraq)...we are in trouble because everybody is looking for not just #1, but for #2,3 and 4...by trying to screw over the hard working american trying to make ends meet. it isnt enough they go to work and make a profit, they have to that, and then skim a little off the top for themselves.

Go into any 'customer service' related business, and see just who they have working behind the counter. It is always high schoolers or early 20s, and they dont care about pride or their performace. They show up, do the bare minimum to earn a paycheck and go home. They could care less about feeling good about themselves when they go home.

It doesn't work like that, and I do not agree on how US is handling it. They should at least pay your way home.

If you do this, someone will pay, and pay good. I am sure that the other guy will be fired, I can almost guarantee that. Then someone will be charged for fuel. And then both of you will have God only knows what put on your DAC. I would say that you will see a great big "STOLE TRUCK AND ABANDONED LOAD", stamped right over your name and the other guys.

Don't do it. Be more of a man than they are capable of being and find your way home. The ramifications aren't worth it. Not today.

Well, you seem to have a clue. Be a man, suck it up, and chalk it up. Welcome to trucking.

Get back into trucking? Good luck. All you have read in this thread is just a sign of things to come. It is not good out here, and that is why US Express is getting away with crap like this.

My buddy went to the shop he is leased onto yesterday for his check. He called this morning, and the phones were disconnected. JB Hunt is on a hiring freeze till next Feb. Schneider has closed there school till sometime next year, and are only hiring O/Ops or drivers with 1+ years experience. And from what I am seeing, they will have a hiring freeze real soon.

It is not good out here.

There are allot of O/Ops and company drivers floating around out here with years of experience, and clean records, looking for work. And there is very little work to go around. The companies that are hiring can afford to be very very picky, and they are.

Yep, the best time to look for a job is when you already have one.

One other thing. EVERY OTR driver should be prepared for the day when they may be hundreds or even thousands of miles away from the house, and have to get home on their own dime. DO NOT assume that your company will care about you ,once you are at a terminal and out of their truck. BE PREPARED for the worst and be happy if the worst does not happen. :yes2557:

I have posted this several times today, but it fits this thread.

My buddy picks up his paycheck from the office yesterday. He calls today and the phones have been disconnected. Thank God he is at the house.

I can't recall the number of O/Ops that were leased on to a company this year that just closed there doors. The drivers fuel cards were turned off, and they still had a load to deliver! I would much rather be stuck in a terminal waiting for a ride home, even on my dime, than face that situation.

You are assigned that truck yes but you need to rember that you do not own it. You are to drive the truck were the company wants it.

When you were hired you are only authorized to move that truck according to the routing directions.

I would love to see someone get charged with grand theft auto and theft of the load and use the excuse sorry I got lost as you have the directions on the qualcom and heading the wrong way for several hundred miles.

P.s. if you had a team mate on board with you you could also be charged with kidnaping as you are taking him somewere he may not want to go.

Legal definition of kidnaping if you hold someone against their will or move them even a fraction of a millimeter against their will you are guilty of kidnaping.

Yes it is bad out there. Especially if you are working at an otr company that only pays mileage and nothing else. It really is troubling to read of so many drivers sitting. It wouldn't be bad but a lot of them are not paid while sitting. Whether it be for lack of frieght or the weather. Meanwhile, the bills keep coming in. I don't know how they continue to do it? Maybe someone can explain how they do it.

I have heard of drivers stating that driving is "in their blood". It's in mine as well. But making money, providing for my family and being with my family, is right up there at the top. Call me crazy but I think drivers should be paid for all of their time on duty.
