    Hey guys!

Well I'm a rookie to say the least! I've been in a truck for less than 2 years and doing OTR for about 1 year and loving it. I'm also very proud to represent the less than 6% of OTR women truckers in America! Woo-hoo!

I guess I just wanted to put some thoughts out there to see if anyone else felt the same.

The cold reality is we drive potential murder machines. And this is in no way trying to be offensive. Like I said, I love my job and am proud to be a driver. However, I feel like maybe we've maybe gotten a little too comfortable. And I'm talking to the truckers who drive with their feet on the dash using one finger to steer (saw this yesterday in Indiana). I'm talking to the truckers who have Netflix going on their dash while they're driving. I'm just going off of what I see. I always drive with the mentality that people are TRYING to get me to hit them (and let's face it, sometimes it feels that way)! You can be the safest driver with the most experience, etc. etc. But we don't know what can happen. 4-wheelers are out there texting and applying makeup going 75 down the interstate, cutting you off left and right, making last second decisions in the middle of a snow storm...... anything can happen. I guess that's why what we do is one of the top 10 most dangerous jobs in the USA.

All I'm saying is, I drive across the country and I see the semi wrecks and it breaks my heart. Then my mind wanders to the drivers who aren't really all that safe.....

    Anyone else feel the same?

    Stay safe out there!

Unfortunately that's the way it is. People get complacent and get distracted, they're already breaking the law so there's not much you can do about it. There's a lot of dumb people out there and you just have to be aware of them and keep a safe distance. A similar scenario is riding a motorcycle but in this situation you're the one potentially getting murdered by the machines. I tell people when I'm on the bike I have to act like I'm invisible, I don't assume no one can see me, I KNOW no one can see me. That same mentality applies to any vehicle you drive.

I totally agree, I know a driver who brags about watching Netflix while driving. I told him the first thing a defense attorney will do if he’s involved in a wreck (even if he’s not at fault) is subpoena his phone records. If they see that he was driving while streaming Netflix on his phone at anytime. It will show a pattern of distracted dangerous driving, and a jury will convict him for negligence. Unfortunately most drivers out here anymore are so unprofessional, it’s pathetic.

I myself always wondered how they get away with it. Or, do we actually have that many drivers out there that are so new they haven't gotten caught yet? When in the coup, do they make the scale man wait until the scene is finished on Netflix before they pull up. LOL

I use a handsfree bodycamera clipped to my hat and film my driving like it is a dashcam except it is on my head and have caught tons of professional commercial drivers using their cell phones while driving . But overwhelmingly I have caught a ton of hate for doing it from other professional commercial drivers who call me a snitch, threaten me with bodily harm and threaten to key up my truck if they see it in the truck stop. So overall truckers really don't care what other truckers are out there killing the public while being on the phone. I warn them that the DOT will come up with a solution like mandating driver facing cameras in all commercial vehicles and/or cell phone blocking technology into the ELD whenever the unit is in Drive mode.

One of the ones that always stuck with me was the chic in the Volvo passing me doing about 75 with her legs folded up under her.

Mind your business. Is worrying yourselves about all of this changing anything? How many inattentive drivers have changed their ways because of your concern for them or whatever you call it?I call it being nosey and the correct answer is zero.instead you're gonna end up like dingaling worrying about your truck getting keyed in the parking lot and bodily harm coming to you. Nobody likes a nosey neighbor. Mind your business before you're own bad habits are exposed.remove the tree limb from your eye before you worry about the splinter in theirs

How could one conscientiously live with oneself after witnessing a professional commercial driver holding a cell phone while driving and decided to mind their own business and not report it, and that pro/com driver went on and killed someone?
