A DAC (Drive-A-Check) report is not just for trucking. It is a document covered under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The FCRA is a consumer report that records driving convictions not unlike a consumer report that is used to determine your credit rating when you apply for a credit card. It lists ALL driving convictions for 7-years in all type vehicles.

Ask yourself this: "what, how many, and how serious were your driving convictions the past 7-years in any type vehicle". When you answer that you will probably know why you were turned down.

Well, I have never had a ticket or wreck in my entire driving life so that is not the case.

I had put this in a seperate post here and gotten a couple of useful responses. The company that I was referring to is Crete...so I thought it might be pertinent to put it here to. Also, we spoke to the recruiter at Crete on the phone and she told us that hubby needs to get 4 -6 months OTR for someone else, to have experience, then re-apply to them as they are not hiring right out of school at this point.

    ___
I have read on the site that DAC reports only contain information related to trucking employment.

My hubby just graduated with CDL and we are looking for employment for him. We just got a letter back from one of the companies that states he is not being hired due to "information obtained in whole or in part" from his DAC report. :biggrin_25511:

Logically, this would be blank as he has not worked for any other trucking companies as of yet....am I correct in my thinking? Also, if this is the case, would the information they are referring to possibly be that he has nothing on his DAC?? In other words, his lack of experience??:biggrin_2552: This is one of the companies that his truck driving school recommends and that normally sends recruiters to the school...however we have heard that they are not hiring newbies at this time until they get 4 months of experience. Probably one of those hiring freezes that we keep reading about here on the site.:biggrin_1square8:

I just want to make sure my thinking is on the right track. We are so new to this, I just have to ask at this point.

Thanks for the information in advance!!

If you were turned down within the last 30-days you have the right to demand a complete explanation why if you request it from that carrier in writing. They then must respond to you within 30-days

USIS/DAC among other things is a report of ALL driving convictions within the past 7-years. It is not just convictions in a truck.

Who are you driving for that doesn't use DAC? I have a negative on my report that doesn't belong to me that I'm trying to rectify. What a nightmare. Having a hard time getting hired.

I recently had a similar experience with Crete.

I am a 52 year old coming out of retirement to enter trucking. I worked for 21 years for a large phone company (my last 3 years there as a Director) taking a buyout in '98. I then went to a smaller company as the Director of Engineering for 4 years. Then I started and ran a small firm for 4 1/2 years until I sold it in June of '06. At that point I was "retired", financially set with no intention of working again.

Well, retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. You can only play so much golf and travel so much. So I decided to go back to work but I didn't want to sit behind a desk or have 140 employees to worry about. I wanted to try something totally different (for me at least). So I decided on trucking, enrolled in a local PTDI certified school and am nearing graduation. I spoke with a recruiter from Shaffer (a division of Crete) and sent in an application complete with a copy of my driving record (no tickets or accidents in 15+ years), a resume, a cover letter explaining why I want to work for Shaffer, reference letters (character references) from a VP at a large financial services firm, 2 attorneys, and my CPA, the tax returns from my business and the closing statement from the sale of the business. All this was intended to explain to the recruiting department why I had a 2 1/2 year gap in my employment and to establish that I am a solid citizen with good character and excellent work ethic.

Much to my surprise I got a message on my cell phone from the recruiting department stating there was a problem with my work history and to please call back. After numerous attempts I finally got in touch with the representative. She explained that since I couldn't explain what I had been doing or how I had been supporting myself for 2 1/2 years Crete wouldn't consider me for employment. I asked if she had reviewed all the documentation I had submitted including the tax returns and closing statements? She hesitated and again stated that since I hadn't proven what I had been doing Crete wouldn't hire me. I asked her if she knew what "retired" implied, and whether 4 professionals would lie about my status. She then said (and this is what really ticked me off) "Crete only hires the best of the best and since you can't explain where you were or what you've been doing you aren't one of the best and we won't hire you!" (I swear this is exactly what she said). I asked (politely) to speak to her supervisor. She put me on hold for 30 seconds, came back on the line and said her supervisor said we aren't going to hire you and to stop asking questions - she then hung up. This was one of the rudest encounters I've ever had, totally lacking in professionalism. I can't believe that a company with the reputation of Crete allows this level of unprofessional conduct. If this is really how they treat drivers I'm glad I was rejected.

Three days later I received a letter stating that due to information contained in my DAC I would not be hired. I'm still in CDL school, have never worked in the trucking industry, have a credit rating over 800, have never been arrested, no tickets, no accidents, married for 30 years, 2 college degrees (including an MBA), there is absolutely nothing I can think of that would discourage a potential employer from considering me. I think the DAC letter is just BS dreamed up in the HR department as an excuse to use in rejecting applicants.

I have 3 other pre-hire offers so I'll be driving soon for someone. I consider Crete to be the big loser here, they lost a potentially good employee. I can't believe that a company with the reputation of Crete allows this level of unprofessional conduct. If this is really how they treat drivers I'm glad I was rejected.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and a happy, prosperous and safe 2009.

    Best Regards,

    October Guy

    Uh-OH!
She/They probably just skimmed over all that.
    Why 'waste' time reading?
    That would require comprehension.
    :biggrin_2555: :biggrin_2552:
    Hmmmmmm
    What does THAT "prove"? :biggrin_25525:
She's probably used to dealing with "professional" dispatchers and/or recruiters.
Maybe even used to be a dispatcher who proved her worth and was promoted.
Obviously that only pertains to Crete's drivers.
I think I'da asked her to define "prove".
    Sadly, I don't doubt it a bit. :biggrin_25512:
I'm thinkin' that the dial-tone was more intelligent than she and her SUPERvisor are combined.
    "Professionalism" in the front office?
    What a concept. :biggrin_25525:
    HeY!
    They probably ENCOURAGE that. :biggrin_25523:
    :biggrin_2552: Ya reckon?

Are you aware that if YOU respond to Crete within 30 days, Crete must provide you with a written explanation as to exactly why you were rejected? And, I think a free copy of your DAC report.
Well, ..... thats your problem, right there!

You, October Guy, are OVER qualified.
Crete is probably afraid of you. :yes2557:
I think THEY don't really want those who can, and DO, think.
    Could be.
But they owe you an explanation IF you request it.

    Which other truckin' companies?
You could find that those companies will make Crete seem compassionate.
Their attitude, if like many other truckin' companies these daze is
Plenty more where Y'all came from.
Only, it seems, in their offices.
    Imagine that.

Best regards to you, too, OG.
    And WELCOME to the forums.

i have no doubt about your capabilities....but you may be in for a bit of 'culture shock.' (there are good, good people out here- just meaning the 'way things can work')

-i'm going with after's theory of them bein' afraid of you

-find somewhere decent and i'm sure you'll enjoy your new career.

-please hang out at the forum's here and do some learning.....it would have served me well to do so sooner.

    good luck!
