That equates to 55k a year l n a w2. In addition if they are in your truck and you are dispatching them your operating illegally as far as the IRS is concerned.

Most folks I know are making 70k a year on W-2 with benefits and working 5 days a week and home weekends. Why the heck would they want to work for you?

That’s totally not true ,the most of the ppl in major companies making up to 40 cpm.And bringing home 600-700$ per week. And all my guys make 1500-1700$ per week!!!I THINK THIS IS A BIG DIFFERENCE

Your 1500-1700 is only 1100-1300 after they pay out the taxes you should have. And benefits, vacation etc.

Not liking the answer will not change it.

I'm asking myself the same question. I guess there are truckers that like being truckers on one hand and there are truckers out there to make money... I also cannot understand people working as a company drivers (regardless if big or small company) for many years and not getting their own truck... just doesn't make any sense to me...

First off there is no "WE ALL PAY .55" forgetaboutit.

And 1099 exerts a special set of liabilites. If you have a mountain of money and shove half it to Dear Uncle Sam every three months go ahead. It's wonderful to be a American.

.35 has been paid for DECADES to people too new, and therefore too stupid to understand that this wage is below par and has been thus for decades.

Newbies are disposible as well. They scuff something making a turn or flop a truck over and that's that. Fired. NEXT.

I am hard to hire because I know #### well what I should be paid accounting for Inflation. No one is going to pay that. It's a shame too. They miss out on a awesome old school driver with more experience than some of their own Dispatchers and Office people been alive I dare say. HA....

Your going to have to pay .80 cents per mile solo so a guy can pay in.
The feds, your state, medicare and social security all need a piece of your check.
About 552 dollars per week for me.
So you see your wage is lagging and that is why you can't find drivers..at least quality long term ones.

What 06driver said. And if you are controlling your drivers by telling them when they work and where they are going, they are EMPLOYEES and you are operating illegally. Eventually, you'll get caught and the fines levied will bury your company. I've seen it happen. 10 truck operation that ended with a huge $630,000 fine from the IRS. And if you think the IRS will only go back 7 years, think again. They want every dime they can get.

That's not the end of it. The IRS can and WILL find the banking associated with a illegal operator, and levy the same. Next thing you know you cannot move a dollar anywhere without it going bye bye. If you own property etc and all of that is assets as well. Seizure time. You are homeless now.

The Tax bills will be due forever and ever. God will have to make arrangements to pay Uncle Sam should you die before paying it. Or at least your Estate what there is of it. It will be liquidated to satisfy any outstanding bill. The children get nothing, in fact maybe even stand to get a bill for what's left.

Again if I wanted to deal with 1099, I'll do it my own self for all of it. Otherwise if someone says simon go here load there and deliver next friday at 9 am. Then I am a employee? I don't think so. It's not lawful to be both a employee and pay 1099. Forgetaboutit.

If you want me a employee, there are two things. First I sign a W2 only. Withholding as required from my paycheck you sign each week. Anything related to 1099 will not be touched. If that does not work, then I am not a employee in the company. If you wonder how much it will take to hire someone like me in pay? You are looking at a minimum of 25% of gross truck revenue, salary based on 3000 miles x .75 a week and that's it. No miles pay for this old grumpy.

Why wouldn't I work for you?
1.No offense, but if you're paying on a 1099, that's a red flag for starters. That signals to me that you're cutting corners financially. I can only imagine where else you'd be cutting corners.

    2. $.55 a mile is chicken #### money. ESPECIALLY on a 1099! I average more than that and have fully paid health insurance, and 3% match into my retirement. And I'm home everyday. And driving a 3 month old truck.

    3. You want good drivers, start by being a good business owner .Pay taxes like everyone else, don't be skirting the system. Sooner or later, it will catch up. Then those 25-30 trucks will be in the graveyard with the thousand other white Volvo's previously owned by people trying to skirt the laws.

    4. STOP YELLING! TURN YOUR CAPS LOCK OFF! We tend to listen better that way!
