Question about transfer permit to move truck from BC to AB

Discussion in 'Canadian Truckers Forum' started by One out of many, Mar 16, 2018.

  1. I’m supposed to pick up a truck from a chilliwack dealership on Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Does anyone know what I need in regards to transfer permits? Someone told me I need a “binder” from ICBC to move it to the border, do I need to get another transfer permit from an Alberta registry to move it from the border to home or can I get a permit from ICBC which is valid in both provinces?

I used to move trucks from Quebec to Alberta with just a quebec temp permit.

But It wouldn't surprise me if BC was completely different and only let you drive in BC with their permit.

BigHossVolvo and One out of many Thank this.

You can get a permit from Alberta that is valid in both provinces for your move. I bought one in Alberta to move a truck from an Alberta Richie Bros. auction to a location in BC. The only paperwork required was a Richie Bros invoice and my driver's license and a binder from the local ICBC office in BC that the truck's owner obtained.
I was not able to get a permit myself from the ICBC office because I was only the driver, not the owner.
If you have the invoice, you should be able to get a temp from your local ICBC office IF they know big truck licensing procedures. Whether it would be good in another province (as the Alberta temp was) is a question you'd have to ask them. If they say no, get the Alberta one instead... Good luck!

I can't believe how criminal ICBC is... And the province of BC too. I had to pay for my own healthcare there, what a joke

    AModelCat Thanks this.

ICBC is not the problem here, the last government we had was using it as a piggy bank for the last 16 years, instead of having it be a non-profit insurance company as it was intended.
For the record, the MSP premium was just reduced by 50% as promised, and is planned to be eliminated the next budget. We will see...

Anybody getting a truck in Chilliwack BC I recommend using Hub International on Airport Rd. They know commercial trucks, and will get you all the correct temp tickets you need to drive back to wherever you need to go.

All I have used is the In Transit permit from an Alberta Registries agent and my own insurance. Because BC has the additional financial responsibility requirement to operate there as a carrier it should already be in place for an existing carrier, or can purchase a binder through ICBC.

When I bailed out of there I paid sooo much less to insure my vehicles (with better coverage). Supposedly they're supposed to jack their rates up again this year.

BC, as always, means Bring Cash. How d'ya all like the IFTA fuel taxes for driving here? And yeah, our socialist government will raise the insurance rates. Along with a newly top up of the carbon tax. Best yet is the flat landers that dare drive out here get a bonus rate for doing so. We, who deal with the mountains every day, get squat.
