I'm in a similar situation, my two youngest are uncles to my grandchildren and some of those grandchildren are adults.

Bob Dobalina, road_runner and MACK E-6 Thank this.

    Here’s a headscratcher.

My late brother-in-law was older than his uncle.

so in your daily laugh at LoneCowboy treat:

Today I go off to pull a skateboard. They give me a 1999 Peterbilt. (number escapes me, nice, flatbed conventional day cab, if i could figure out how to add a picture, i would). I'm thinking OMG, some piece of crap. But no, SUPER NICE. I couldn't find anything wrong with it, way nicer than the POS penske freightliner day cab that had 1/3 as many miles I got last week. But it was old. How do you start this thing? back inside. "push the button." push the button????????

took me 10 minutes to find the flashers. (old style with the turn signal, been 10 years since i had a truck with those), etc. But power, room, tight, etc, with a million miles on it. So i get hooked up, go off, load up, they aren't ready, bring it back to the yard. Drop the legs, pull the lines and where in the blue fiddlesticks is the 5th wheel release?

Ok, maybe it's a air release. Go back inside, read every single switch (again), nope, not here. What the ?

Go inside. Ask dispatch (with a few drivers around). Ummm, stupid question here, how do you release the 5th wheel?

Oh, some of the older trucks have it on the passenger side, try on the other side.

Now, ok maybe i should have looked, but i have never driven a truck (and i've probably driven 50+ different units) that had it on that side. Sure enough, there's the handle. I'm sure I look like an idiot, but hey, it's my first day. Again.

I don't know about your oldest, but all I get out of mine these days are audible eye rolls and heavy sighs of annoyance. I can't wait til she's out of the moody teenage years. Luckily for me, the boys are like golden retrievers. They're happy to do almost anything, and they will get ten yards downfield before they realize I only pretended to throw the football.

Rumor has it the PA Turnpike Commission banned empties and pups from the turnpike effective 8:00 PM EDT.

Probably for the duration of the snow storm....
