One of the items on the ATA wish list. Gets reintroduced from time to time. But I am a little confused. Different laws legislating maturity requirements are all over the place. 21 to drink, 18 to join the military, proposals to limit gun purchases to over 21, proposals to allow 16 years old to vote.

House Bill Would Allow Interstate Trucking for 18-to-21-Year-Olds

I started driving at 18 back in the chauffer license days and ran intrastate till 21. But I have been around trucks all my life. Still did some stupid things though. Now a days unless you can prove you are mature at 18 I say no way !!

In Alberta, you can get Class 1 at 18. In BC its 19. We seem to have far more issues with the folks we import to drive trucks, rather than the young folks.

Age is just a number. Attitude is everything.

    Right.

Let's make the roads even worse than they are. Great idea.

The cracker Jack trucking school idiots have already destroyed the industry , now because the megas don't wanna pay good wages, we go after teen labor to fill seats?

    No
    No. No. No. No.

Yes many of us had something in our hands besides a video controller. This was about 1985 or early 1986 in Columbus. Roger the man I worked for was up on the casing holding the drilling cable.

And I'm not trying to bash today's youth, but just look around and pay attention to their actions. Most can't take a step without looking at their phone, that's what bothers me. Age wise yes they could probably handle it, but ability to focus on the matters at hand? I question that.
