Past tense. He's dead. He blew himself up as cops closed in to arrest him.
Who was joking about it?

It’s just too bad somebody didn’t shoot this fool before he could kill any innocents.

9 years, 7 months, and 15 days down the drain
a perfect effing record, but no, ruined by chance
and for nothing, nothing at all,
Yep, actually had to chain yesterday. I've been lucky. Either chain law will get lifted before I get there, the storm comes in on my day off, or the place i work just didn't deliver in crappy weather (trim work, equipment, landscaping stuff) or I was just stupid and didn't chain and should have (no chain law, just crappy conditions)
Way out of hours, hammering back, Vail pass had been closed westbound for hours. Just crawling. Get to the drop point, drop the trailer and bobtailing back. (per instructions, I agree it's stupid, I just do what i"M told, usually) Check the CDOT site and all clear. Ok, i'm up against the governer and I'm a going home.
Pass under one of those fancy signs "all CMV's must chain up 16 miles ahead in Vail"
FUDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fine, I'll do it, I wanna go home. 15 to chain, 15 to downchain, 30 minutes to go 15 miles, should be ok, i'l make it. (maybe...................I"m at the i do not care mode, i'm going home)
pull into the chain station and chain up. Took me 20, not too bad for first time (that video on here TTR I watch every year), plus I"m bobtail and that helps. And just as I finish a cop car comes along saying "chain up, but do not proceed, the pass is closed"
FUDGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Sit for like 45 minutes, another guy comes along "ok, the pass is open"
So, a truck goes and i go in behind home and we putter off towards the last exit before the hill. (1 to 2 miles?) it's just wet. About halfway there this cop car comes screaming up and stops the first guy. He talks to him for a while and that guy goes on up the hill. I roll up, he says "the pass is closed again, but you can go if you're ready. Oh, you're bobtail, yeah, you'll never make it, you shouldn't go."
ummmmmmmm, can I downchain and just go back to town?
Sure.
So I chained for nothing. Went back to Vail. (you know fancy ski resort) and got the last hotel room in town. $300. Yes, that's right, friday night in ski season. $300. I'm in a daycab. I told them when the pass was closed earlier in the day that they should just get us a hotel out west and we'll come back tomorrow (sat), but noooooooo. 8 of us stuck out there. Some guys ins sleepers (enjoy Walmart, where teh cops put them I found out) and I had a nice night anyway on their dime.
So I had to chain and STILL didn't get home.
pfffffffffftttttttt
BTW, totally the right call. Waited for the sun to come up (it's going to be like 50 today up there and wasn't supposed to snow last night anyway). There was a couple inches of snow on my truck and all underneath. Chain law finally lifted about 9:30 and the road STILL sucked. Glad I didn't go the night before.speedyk, misterG and road_runner Thank this. -
And I thought my snow day was bad. Now I don't feel right complaining.
This time last year, I had already cut the grass at least once. Now I'm getting ready to go shovel 5" of snow out of the driveway.
All's well that ends well though. My relay guy brought me a fresh from the factory 53 footer, so at least I didn't have to fool with breaking a set in an unplowed lot. Funny thing, it was all done up in Dart livery so I got to drive like a boss today.Bob Dobalina Thanks this. -
I got this interline carrier that we use for these remote places. It's the owner with three trucks and two other drivers . He runs all the freight for FxF, MME, ODFL and us of course. To contextualize the story, the owners name is Mark and he is a real douchecanoe.
Turns out FxF only uses Mark for their spillover freight and they still had a separate company driver running parallel with Mark's trucks to cover the freight they could handle.
Turns out Mark decided his balls had dropped and he got pretty bold. He decided to call up Fedex and told them they were pissing on his turf by running their own drivers next to him.
Give me all your freight or give me none of it he said. So FxF did the obvious. They ran a second truck and Mark lost 70% of his precious freight.
Way to go.
