(Sorry hit send button by accident) Yes as a 1099 guy you have to pay all of your self employment taxes. Also have had to carry my own WORKERS COMP, (not that crap oac that doesnt pay #### if your hurt) Wont argue about the accident part. But that is part of the reason movers carry a 5 million umbrella insurance policy. All that is part of the reason why I make over double the "w2 on the clock guys) Would i reccomend it? NO it is not for everybody. Especially not for people who cant manage their money, or who dont no how to research and plan. If I cold do it all over again. Would I go 1099 or w2? I cannot honestly say either way. Being a 1099 guy has its own share of headaches and rewards. Not for everybody. But I have and always will do whatever it takes to keep a roof over our head and food on the table.

I ran into a similar situation at a place I worked years ago(well before this driving career started). The hired me on but said I would be paid as a “contractor”. Being young and a bit too nieve I accepted since it was good hourly pay, and unfortunately the thought of questioning why I wasn’t filling out a w4 and NYS withholding forms didn’t occur to me... it was only for the first 90 days or so, and it didn’t matter since it was finally my first “professional” job after getting my 2 year electronics degree. Unfortunately it didn’t last long, not only was it the worst neighborhood in buffalo, but the rest of the people in there were drug addicts as well as dropouts, I was the only one with a HS diploma, let alone a degree in something, and not all all was it an electronics place like the placement dept at the “college” said. The fact I was just a country bumkin from out in the sticks didn’t help either. I left for a job with a place where my uncle works. Better pay, etc.
Anyways the next year I get a questionnaire from the irs after informing my accountant that a previous employer only paid me as an accountant but had me on as an employee. I filled out the questionnaire and found out what that employer did was ILLEGAL. Luckily they went after that place for the money. (Fortunately that place has long gone under and closed up).
Like I said, beware of those 1099 outfits. If that’s how they are paying you but working you as an employee that’s a lot of trouble you can get into. -
Wow. -
The answer for 99.999% of people is that there are no high paying 1099 jobs.. They entice suckers to pay for everything that they'd have to pay an actual employee... while they let them pretend that they are a "valued employee".. its a scam in almost every case.
