What makes no sense to me is they claim the reason they are breaking the law and being unsafe(speeding etc) is to keep from breaking a different law (HOS). Both are a ticket, both will hurt your chances at a better job even cost you your current. Sense the speeding snd driving like crazy is unsafe, looks like they would have enough sense to slow down drive safe and in the nessacary times violate the HOS to get somewhere to tske their break. Cause after all the speeding and driving crazy draws immediate un wanted attention. While the HOS violation has a really good change of not being found in the 7 dsys its in the e log

HOS violations will be found in the back office, and some companies have people in those offices known to cause trouble.

As little as a few seconds, maybe even a second, will trigger a violation that won't show on the grid but will be listed.

True I have never been a company driver. My small operation has little chance of an audit from a disgruntled back office worker.

I had violations that didn't show on the grid. It's been a learning experience, and can't say it saves me time, I spend lots with that tiny touchscreen I can just about read.

I prefer to do nether. Plan the day well enough that I'm not having to drive like a maniac to save 3 minutes. But if ever put in a position where its violate the hos or drive unsafe? I will violate the hos every single time.

That isn't always possible. Say you are 6 hours into your day, 2 full hours before you gotta stop for 30 minutes, and you come into stop and go traffic due to a bad accident in an area not known for horribly bad congestion. Your choice is violate hos till you get to an exit with a truck stop, or park on the shoulder. I'm violating hos in that situation. I'll stop at the first SAFE place i can, exit/entrance ramps and the shoulder are not safe.

If traffic lasts longer than 30 minutes, in the time it takes to sit on the shoulder and then move back onto the road you would be about 5 cars back from where you started.

That would be a traffic shut down. Not stop and go traffic for 5+ miles caused by 3 lanes merging to 1. Either way I'm not stopping on a shoulder. The shoulder is for emergency use only and you better get the triangles out, the 30 minute break does not qualify as an emergency.

If you're in stop and go or behind an accident longer than 30 minutes you can lob off 5 minute blocks as you crawl and edit them together to make the 30 minute break. On off on off on off. Don't tell my mom.
