14 hour clock keeps ticking, so right now if you stop for a nap, it can potentially cut into your available drive time...especially if you do live loads/unloads or have to tarp/untarp, strap/unstrap, etc. Not as much of a concern for door slammers who happen to drop & hook most of the time and can crash out in the sleeper on any live load/unloads they get stuck with. If you're feeling fatigued but a nap is going to cut into your drive time, and the load has to move, you're more likely to grab another Red Bull and get on down the road....which is the exact opposite of what ought to be encouraged. If you want to encourage safe behavior, you cannot penalize people for behaving in a safe manner nor can you reward unsafe behavior. That, however, is EXACTLY the sort of nonsense you're advocating. We've seen an increase in stupid truck wrecks as more and more companies implemented elogs with their strict enforcement of the unsafe HOS...drivers pushing to get the job done with the lack of flexibility they might need to be SAFE as they run down the road. Can't stop...clock is ticking! By allowing the clock to be stopped, they'll also be able to stop.
Three more hours added to the fourteen hour duty status

I drove under the old 8/10/15 rule, it was a lot more laid back then.7-UP, bowhunter67, kwswan and 2 others Thank this. -
After spending all day sleeping while my reefer was getting repaired and spending half the night sleeping while getting loaded, I’m ready to go. Except, the HOS says I have to sit here for 45 minutes with my thumb up my ### because I’ve only been in the sleeper for 7:15.
This is what is commonly known as BULL ####.7-UP, bowhunter67, kwswan and 2 others Thank this. -
@Pedigreed Bulldog, you and me think a lot alike. I appreciate you man!

The 14 had two purposes. To theoretically provide means to follow a natural circadian rhythm more consistently through a work-week. And to make load planning and setting appointments easier and more predictable for planners, brokers, dispatchers, etc.
Some of these arguments and rants in this thread make no sense. I can't discern if they are for a possible extension of the 14 or if they are just mad at the world, in general. The idea "one can't take a nap" under existing rules is laughable, at best. This assumes one must drive 11 hours each day in order to survive. So if I understand correctly, for some, they must lump freight for 3 hours (EVERY day) and "nap" for 1 hour (EVERY day), and drive for 11 hours (EVERY day), as a requirement to make a living? Wow. Sucks to be you.
In this situation, one is quickly going to find themselves having to arrive for delivery/loading well past normal operating hours for many businesses. How the hell is that supposed to work?
SMHgentleroger and 06driver Thank this. -
Like all three of the ones before this it is filled with excuses and purposeful deception.
Good luck if your carrier is audited with your misinterpretation. I have seen 6 figure fines levied for falsifying on that scale.
You chose to mess around in the middle of the day instead of working. And like most blame everyone (bank, the boss, the shipper) but the person responsible. You
There is nowhere saying how productive a driver must be. If they have such a weak constitution that they require a nap they should find a segment of the industry that allows it. Or leave. -

That makes you a L/O just like Mercer, Landstar et al. Further they are responsible for your actions while operating under their authority.
