If US Cold storage had showers, I would. Unfortunately, I can’t leave their parking lot and go to the Petro, which is only a few miles away, because it would put me in violation of the HOS.
Three more hours added to the fourteen hour duty status

Do any of you think that this has actually promoted safety?
Do the statistics justify this?SAR and HopeOverMope Thank this. -
The current HOS is more of a potential drag or nuisance for some [on some days] than anything else. It demands VERY careful planning and thinking much further ahead then some are adept at doing. It also requires some "luck" and an absence of a lot of bad luck. But I always say "we ourselves are responsible for much of both the good luck and the bad luck we experience", not all, just a lot. So, if you're always having hell dealing with HOS and eLogs, you're probably still at a loss to figure how to modify your schedule and behavior, and that's on you. Not on me or the FMCSA.
I don't like the current HOS rules but I would not want to drive in a world with No meaningful HOS limits. I know the human condition too well. we have enough distracted drivers out here. We don't need to add a bunch of fatigued drivers, regularly driving 14+ hours per day.
For me and in they type of OTR running I do, and rarely going home, the only thing I really would like to see is to eliminate the 70/8 rule. Having to shut down [prematurely] because of this is much more senseless then having to shut down because of the 14.Last edited: Apr 7, 2018
