I've installed around 40 ELD systems in trucks ranging from 2001-2018 and have not come across a 4-pin diagnostic connector. It's always a 6 or 9 pin J1939 or ODBII-style connector.

PM me a picture of the connector and year/make/model i'll try to lend a hand if I can.

I'm actually excited about this feature. Simply because its done, and I don't have to plug numbers into my spread sheet anymore. I'm manually entering the fuel. I just printed all the reports for this past quarter and now all I have to do is plug it into the DOT reporting site. I think you will like this. Very streamlined and easy peasy!

I think so too. Anything to save time doing bookwork is good for me.

Keep Trucking. And honestly my hubby is doing pretty well with it. He's not a techno person, so there was a learning curve with him. They do great tutorial videos, and have a channel on UTube. I throw it up on the ps4 for him to watch and we go over it on his tablet.

We did discover that the ELD will drain the batteries if the driver does on tell the ELD he's leaving the truck and disconnects the tablet from the ELD. I suspect its the same principal as your phone searching for a signal. But so far, thats the only hickup we've had.

I have learned in the last 6 mos to disconnect mine from the tablet when im home because it also has a nasty tendency to not want to connect with my iPad if I don’t hit the “leave truck” prompt.
Honestly everybody I know is struggling with theirs and other than my utter hate of the concept of these things I have had zero real technical problems with this KeepTruckin thingy.

Yeah, here too. Mostly operator error. I rode with hubby today so I could help him with the yard move and the personal conveyance. We watched the videos a couple times, but I wanted to see what he was seeing. He's on a local gig right now for quite some time, and is using the 100 air mile rule. But his commute to and from was eating his clock along with him driving around the yard looking for a trailer. So I wanted to see where he could apply both. I think I may make up a print out for him to follow for a bit. It's definitely new for him and like I said he's not techo savvy, so his confidence is a bit low. Lol

They have liberalized the personal conveyance rules quite a bit with these things. I don’t think you even have to drop your trailer now, you just have to be empty and on personal time. As far as yard moves I use the same rules I did with paper logs. If it’s in the same town I’m on duty, not in driving mode. It saves tons of driving time.

If he is using the short haul exception, aka the 100 mile rule, he is not required to maintain a log and therefore is exempted from the eld mandate. With that said, the concept of personal conveyance and yard move does not apply to anyone using the short haul provision as you simply have 12 hours from coming on-duty before you have to be relieved from duty and have to start and return to the same place each day. So his 12 hours starts at the house and ends at the house, you don't get to commute in a cmv while using short haul.

Wait, he has no trailer until he gets to the yard, so still personal conveyance. He's bobtail. Am I wrong? I guess we will go back out to the scale and talk to the dot again. Because they said yes, he could use it.

He goes back and forth between the short haul and the long haul. So he does need them when he's on the 70 hour rule. Which he kept missing.
