Im currently an O/O leased to a carrier and using their insurance. I’ve checked out the OOIDA website and it looks like there’s lots of resources there if you’re a member. Should I bother or skip it.

i am a member, i have asked them some questions over the years and always got good quick accurate answers.

i also use them for my drug testing. you have to be a member to be in that program

if nothing else its good to support a organization that stands up for the little guys.

It is up to you but hell for the amount of money you will get to explore it for a year to see if it fits your needs.

I used to be a member and then one day I saw the office building that the dues pay for and decided I’d just keep my money in my pocket.

I’m thinking about it it. It seems like it might be more useful for someone with their own authority. My company takes care of a lot and I don’t see how OOIDA could help me and I hate to pay in case it’s a waste.

For the $45 per year fee they will review the lease before you sign with a carrier. I doubt you can get a lawyer to review a lease for that small of a fee.

This is not for or against OOIDA. The consideration one must make is the value of the organization as a whole.

OOIDA has some benefits that may be worth while to some, and not to others. Some apply only to an O/O, others to all drivers.

A number of people seem to be disappointed with the amount of legal actions the organization takes on.
Filing against various state and federal agencies.
They have also taken on a few companies for abusive or unlawful activities.

Have listened to some state that the organization does not really represent the majority of drivers and the people in charge are working their own agenda. That is a reason often given for not joining.

The thing about organizations, they are what the members make it. It takes numbers to make changes. This has two fold results. First the organization gets direction, second is the public perception and influence it carries.

Example; If group A has 300,000 members
And group B has 3,000,000. Which group will have more influence.

This same scenario applies,to other groups as well, like NASTC.

The medallion stickers they give you to put on the sides of your tractor are pretty cool ;-)

Seriously though, $45 a year ain't gonna break the bank. I get a member discount on DAT that pays for the annual $45 annual membership fee.
