Alas....no, I'm not. The holidays just have everything bogged down. A lot of trainers are off for the holidays but they are starting to trickle back in and most all of them are back by January 4th or 5th.

Hang in there. The holidays are almost over and things should start breaking loose fairly soon here.

Am off to South Carolina in the morning (am in Virginia at the moment) to p/u a load going to Illinois. 2am delivery on Saturday....derr...I can do this one *easy*.

Put the truck in the shop yesterday because the check engine light kept coming on. Found a whole laundry list of things wrong with it (delta pressure sensor, air leak, fan hub leaking) and took them most the day to fix it. I grab my load, get 10 miles down the road...check engine light comes on again. To heck with it...I just kept on rolling.

Don't panic all you newbies. I have one of the old Century Class trucks (and an automatic to boot)...it's just starting to show it's age and is headed for trade-in anyway. Other than the A/C going out on me about 2 months ago, this is the first time it has had an issue since I got it early in the fall.

I heard from a trainer assigned to me today (thankfully). Apparently all the ones who live Fort Worth and environs are smokers; I'm a non-smoker so the closest they can find for me is a guy from Austin. He's apparently waiting on a northbound load to come get me.

But apparently all the crap I have in my bags seems to have multiplied since the last time I packed up, and I need a bigger bag this time! :biggrin_2555: What's up with that? I guess I'll blame it on the DOT regs books they gave me at orientation.

Today's project was getting a trainer, and getting direct deposit set up (payroll to Comdata is EXPENSIVE!) ... tomorrow's project is finding out where my reimbursement for my HazMat endorsement is. It didn't come last paycheck. :biggrin_25512:

why is "waiting on a trainer" unpaid?...sorry i never had a trainer, never needed one, but if they make u sit at home and wait for a trainer for a week or 2 or so, then why can't they pay u something for that?...

RR, if you owned a company would you pay someone to sit at home for weeks?

Well, I just found out that my my scheduled Jan. 12th orientation has been cancelled and I have been rescheduled for the 19th. Naturally, the only way I found out about this was when I called for another reason and they realized I hadn't even been rescheduled. So since I had all my orientation papers, I could have flown all the way to Jackson before finding this out :biggrin_2551: if I hadn't called. And apparently, even this new date could get pushed back again. The frustrating part is, I called kllm 1 week ago telling them that I was going to buy a plane ticket and I wanted to make sure this was all set in stone. They said yes, and I bought a non-refundable ticket from Detroit to Jackson. Thank goodness it was "only" $100. Such is life in the world of OTR trucking, or so it seems to this newbie. I still think KLLM will be a good company for me to start out with, but I'm going to make some phone calls to some other companies just to keep my options open a little longer in case something else happens:biggrin_25510:.

Sorry to hear that. I hope that your next one doesn't get changed again.

i would personally go to the higher god of KLLM and ask to be reimbursed for that $100 non-refundable ticket, they made no effort to give u enough advanced warning of the change, in fact even told u Yes when u called to confirm b4 getting the plane ticket in stone....that is total BS...they better have one hell of a good reason to push your orientation back and pull that crap...but i'm just a fighter like that.,.,,lol

I have to agree with RR..... obviously someone dropped the ball, and you should not be made to carry the burden. Plus, from what I have read on here, KLLM seems to be a rather "fair and upstanding" company. I wouldn't think that you should have a problem getting them to take care of it. And HEY! If they aren't willing to step up to the plate, is that the kind of company you would want to work for anyway?

    Just my $.02

I started working for KLLM in September, fresh out of trucking school,I was lucky and they assigned me a trainer right away,I didn't smoke either and my trainer did,but he said that he wouldn't smoke in the truck and I was ok with that.So far KLLM has treated me very well and all the people I have dealt with have been very nice,My milage has been pretty good, from 2500 to 3000 per week average, although it has been down somewhat I believe due to the holidays I hope. The trucking life is definetly a different one,but like everyone says have a good attitude and take the good with the bad and you should be ok.Good luck.
