My dad is giving me his old truck and said if I don’t want to go to school that I should start driving with him. I’m only going to be hauling garbage waste 380 miles daily, same route everyday .I’m 19 years old and have no experience I got offered 18,000 a year for insurance, do you think that’s the cheapest offer I’ll get or should I keep looking?

At 19 I don't think it's going to get much cheaper.

Insurance is all dependent on where you are and your experience.

I have had my license since CDL began and my insurance would be $15,000 a year.

One agent told me she just signed someone for $26,000 a year.

$18,000 a year is a crazy amount of money to spend on insurance, but it's not that far out for your age Etc. But it is a colossal amount of money, at least to me..

    Do you have your CDL?

If you drive for another company for a few years incident free, then go drive for your pop, I bet that insurance rate would be half.

Didn’t you post in another thread that you didn’t know what route to take, either to stay in school for a police officer or get into trucking cause your dad was giving you a truck ? I guess you made up your mind. Goodluck with the insurance.

P.S. Be smart. Finish school or get a career and if all fails, I would do trucking for a last resort.

Truck driving can be a career. A darn good career. The kid's dad is a trucker.

Why stay in school to be LEO when that pays barely livable wages and his dad is giving him a truck and he will be running his own business?

I hate that some people view trucking as a last resort job. It can be a profession like any other profession if you apply your self.

I've worked in legal fields when I was younger and I've had a successful business overseas.

When I came back here, I started trucking and now I am an owner operator and I make a lot of money.

But when I have to meet my daughter's friends parents and they ask what I do, they cringe when I tell them I drive a truck.

There's nothing low about driving a truck. I could easily go and work in an office but why? I like driving and I like being in charge of my life.

Owning his own truck is this kids ticket to not being a company slave.

Looking back I wish I had started driving then. But having a father that was a owner/op it made me not want too. Well 15 years working for other people, it clicked. I was really good at making other people money. Why not do it for myself. Look 18k is a lot but without a truck payment you can make it. I might be tough at first but it will get better.
