Returning to an old job, I just requested an automatic and drive cam.

But when you’re off duty, you can cover the camera. Same as every other job- when you’re in their space (it’s their truck so when you’re driving it qualifies as theirs), on their time, it can’t be “intrusion”.

I’m only talking out loud with you because I’m on your side. I hate the darn things and wish they didn’t exist. But if insurance companies are gonna keep giving discounts for having them we need to come up with better arguments against them.

    Hate those #### driver cams!!!!

^ It may feel like our home. Home away from home, etc. but it is not. It is a commercial vehicle capable of doing great damage. You have no right to privacy driving down a public road in a glass box.

Admit it or not, it makes us better drivers. An ounce of prevention.... what the cam should record is a driver minding his/her Ps & Qs. Not texting, watching YouTube, etc. not doing these things as they know they may be held accountable for those actions. Better to record that than a driver caused accident.

I think cams are great. I am a safe driver, the cam protects me and the company (like it or not, we are in the same boat/truck). Supply and demand. As drivers refuse to take a job with a cam, it puts me in a better position to take a job with a cam and demand top compensation.

Like it or not, it is just a matter of time before all commercial vehicles have drive cams. Only a few steps behind full automation.

Yeah, that’s great. I’m a safe driver to, and I have a couple decades (without a camera) of safe history to prove it.

But what I’d really like you to do is tell me one single situation where a camera pointed at you protects YOU?!!! Just one situation.

Then why wouldn’t the inside camera and microphone shut off when the brakes are set?

Plus Swift turned off the inside camera and microphone for some reason...

^ Any situation where a false accusation is made. Any accident investigation is going to be a look at two sides of a story. With a cam, you are very much likely to tell an accurate story, other driver, may or may not. Cam will back your story.

Why when you start talking about drive cams installed in trucks do so many start sweating like a ##### in church?

I admit it, when the cams first came out I went all out to avoid having one installed in my truck. I also had the attitude that real truckers only drive manuals. The more gears the more real the trucker. You have 10 gears, I want 13, etc. The reason for my post. Live and learn. Grow and change. If not, the industry will continue to grow and change and leave you in the dust.

Don't know and don't really care. What am I doing in the cab that the cam can pick up is also something that anyone on the outside of the truck can also see.

The cams I know of are only triggered during an "event". Are we all so precious? Yes, I think it is possible some on the other end can view more than that but really nothing all that exciting going on in my truck that would keep someone awake.

I guess that was meant as an answer to my question. It’s hard to tell because you don’t use the quote feature.

Except it wasn’t an answer. It’s a simple question. Give me one example where a camera pointing at the driver protects the driver. You said “it protects me” and I’m asking for an example.

As the companies get sued and the driver cams show that the truck driver did something to cause it, some insurance companies may get leary of having a camera that gives potential plantiffs ammunition to use against them. I don't care how good of a driver you are. Everyone makes mistakes. A moments inattention? 99.9% of the time it will not cause a problem. But you never know.
