I'm going off memory here. The CRST driver on the boardwalk in NJ. The lady in the NE took out a historic bridge with a 5T load rating in buggy country. Colorado or Wyoming I think driver took out a historic bridge with a low weight rating. Dump truck operator in Ontario, Canada that was drunk and hit a bridge with his box up. The Volvo with a reefer by the off ramp UPSIDE DOWN with DRY roads and daylight. ANY driver that (not OSOW, just regular 13'6") hits a low bridge.
THOSE are NOT my peers. I am not picking on door swingers all the above are irregardless of the wagon they pull. Have I come close to hitting a low bridge? Yes, absolutely. Usually I pull up a block or two away and figure a way around.
Pulling a Case wheel loader from Fargo through the UP, they been fixing that bridge in Escanaba forever. But I didn't know they completely shut it down and detoured you. Last bridge was marked 13'6". I got on the CB and a fellow skateboarder spotted me through, nice n slow. I was 13'6" even, measured with a height stick.
I had to run new roads today to get to my pickup. Grab the atlas and the GPS and figure it out. 421 looked good, flip to the front of the atlas and check it's not restricted or low height.
It's ironic, the newer drivers that boast in threads that they don't run a CB or use an atlas are usually at a mega, usually have issues, and usually are complaining how hard trucking is. Or they the ones asking about video games, truck stop buffets and how many miles per week other companies have with their lease op package.
I don't think it's arrogance, perhaps it's tired of taking pride in your livelihood while others crap on a profession that you strive to be a professional in.
After all, those two words are linked. If you honor your profession you are a professional.Last edited: Apr 30, 2018

Along these lines, I was leaving my first stop today having the right of way headed out to the gate. We will call the other driver Fat Slob. He decides he has to pull out in front of me to beat me to the gate. I’m glad he did, he was the embodiment of today’s seat warmer and what a sight.
He stepped out of the truck wearing a plain white T-shirt that was form fitting to his man boobs. The shirt was complemented by a pair of black basketball shorts, and the outfit was topped off with Nike sandals and black socks. He drug his feet as he walked with the security guard to the back of the trailer, then lumbered back to the truck.
He must have been in some kind of hurry, having dropped his other trailer in the parking lot in front of others instead of an empty spot. Then he didn’t even have time to get properly dressed. I wondered where he was headed in such a hurry as he was leaving, right up until he pulled onto the shoulder just outside the facility. Sometimes I want to take my small maul and......FerrissWheel, Oxbow, Razororange and 3 others Thank this. -

I never post in this sub-forum but I've actually gone back and read literally everything. (back years)
I don't know enough to even know what I don't know
BUT
I learn a ton from this one.
this is by far the best little forum on TTR (which isn't bad either).
Thanks for that.Last edited: Apr 30, 2018

There's no protection here for pant pissers. And there shouldn't be. Not in this forum or in the real world. It drives me crazy to see the standards lowered for all because of the few. There's a lot of people who haven't figured out yet that their bleeding heart doesn't outweigh Darwin's theories.
How do you know not to stab yourself in the back of the throat with your dinner fork? I don't know, but somehow I don't do it. Pants pisser will be the one to do it and soon enough we'll be discussing the merits of pre-chewed food.
I sometimes enjoy watching when I know someone is about to make a mistake, as long as he's not about to maim himself. The way I see it a guy learns the most from his own mistakes. He can learn almost as much from watching someone else's mistake. He learns the least from hearsay. I love learning something new and I like it when other people discover something new.
Some of the smartest people I know have screwed up early and often. But they learn from it and repeat mistakes are rare.
