About the tattoos I have sleeves and one of the TMC recruiters came to my school and said they would be fine as long as it wasn't offensive.

they made a deal with one driver with sleeves that he had to wear long sleeve shirts at the customers. He was ok with it so no problems.

Does TMC inspect your trucks? Like an actual cleanliness inspection? Inside and outside? How often? How the hell do you get used to that?

Actually, they don't inspect your truck, they inspect their trucks. If you are not a slob, there is nothing to get used to.

You get a PO every week for a Truck and Trailer wash. Anytime you go into a terminal for Preventive Maintainence you will be inspected.

Anytime you go through the truck wash at the Des Moines terminal you will be inspected.

That is once every two to three months, although you would be wise to keep your truck clean anytime you are at a terminal for any reason.

There have been field inspections on occasion. In my experience, of only one field inspection, the inspector is not nearly as strict because he realizes you are in a working truck. If you truck is trashed out, of course he will cite you.

If it bothers you to meet these simple requirements, I doubt you are TMC material.

You are the only TMC representatives that the public and most shippers and consignees see. TMC has an image they wish to portray. That of a professional trucking company. Cleanliness is on part of it and one of the most obvious.

You might be right Terry, I might not be TMC material. If everyone has the same snide attitude you do at TMC I could definitely see where it wouldn't be for me. I appreciate you answering my question but it was a simple question and didn't call for any condescension. I can honestly say this is the first time I felt like TMC was not the place I wanted to go.

I can't say for certain if everyone at TMC has my same "snide attitude," but I know the owner does and that is all that matters.

I just don't understand an attitude about how do you get used to keeping your truck clean. My question is how the hell do you get used to driving a dirty truck?

If you decide on TMC, you will find it is the company way or the highway. I'm sorry if that offends you. It will definitly affect your pay. Preventing your truck from getting dirty in the first place is much easier that trying to clean it out once every two months or so.

Truck cleanliness is directly related to personal cleanliness, how you maintain your truck and other equipment, how you handle your paperwork. All of this effects your pay, your reputation, your very success at TMC. It will even affect how TMC is viewed by their customers and the public in general.

So, if this is something that you are really concerned about, my attitude aside, you may want to go to a company that doesn't put such importance on it.

This isn't condenscension, just friendly advice that could save you a lot of heartache in the future. Hate me if you want.

I never got to see very much of Georgia, but I think we have quite a few drivers that live there.

    ___________________________________

TMC wants you to keep your truck clean. Don't let trash pile up on the floor, don't keep tons of stuff on the dash, and try to keep it from looking like a college dorm room. If you work in an office the boss will not want to see trash piled on your floor and stuff everywhere, so what is the difference. Just pick some part of the interior to clean every day and it isn't bad. Smokers have a harder job keeping that film off from everything.

You do need to keep in mind that the shop employees and wash bay employees at Des Moines fill out the inspection. I have heard of them getting back at drivers who are rude to them by giving them a poor truck appearance report. It may just be a rumor, but be polite in any case.
