It’s completely legible just small print.
It’s exactly like a credit card receipt but way way longer.

My biggest pet peeve in the whole incident was the officer's initial insistance that I send the data to MY phone to email it to him...something I simply won't allow myself to even attempt again. The officer doesn't need my email address. He can get HIS phone and synch up...or he can get HIS "secure" USB drive to download the info...or he can view it on the screen. §395.24(d) Driver use of ELD. On request by an authorized safety official, a driver must produce and transfer from an ELD the driver's hours-of-service records in accordance with the instruction sheet provided by the motor carrier. The instruction sheet says to connect with THE OFFICER'S device, not my own...therefore to fully comply with the regs, I cannot use my own phone to transfer the data to then email to him. Almost makes me want to go back to using a flip phone..."sorry, no can do...my phone does not have email capabilities." Whole reason I got a smart phone was for the internet so I could look up places around me if I broke down (frustrated sitting on the side of the road with a blown hose available at any automotive parts store and having to try to call people who MIGHT be near a computer, explain to them where I was, and have them look up Napa, Auto Zone, Oreilly, etc...so I could try to get what I needed brought out to me). Now that I have the tablet, that solves THAT problem...all I need is a phone that can text dispatch. Anyway, I'm ranting and nobody probably wants to read that crap so I'll just quit here.

My driver is old...only has maybe a couple years left anyway. He can't even be bothered with his blue tooth CB radio. He's been driving truck since 1954. There is zero chance that he will figure out a data transfer during a inspection stop. They would shut him down for 10 hrs and he would quit. That is a crappy, crappy way to go out after all those years. But that's what they want. I'm just trying to let him retire on his terms instead of them forcing him out.

It's not his responsibility to figure out the transfer. It's the Officers'. That's what the Driver Card/Inspection Instructions are for. All he (the driver) has to do, is be able to access the "roadside Inspection" screen. The officers also aren't supposed to be e-mailing the logs to themselves. When using E-mail and/or FMCSA Data Transfer, they are sent to a "Central Cauldron" of logs. The log is then accessible, by entering a specific code or reference number. before it's sent, so they can find it. The bluetooth and usb extraction methods are also used, by having an encrypted code.

Once you get to the "Roadside Inspection" screen and provide them with the card, you've done your part.

Here is what I noticed: 1. We found the Roadlog for aroung $540 ish, 2. While the other ones are cheaper, they ALL come with some sort of monthly fee, 3. The office portion of the VDO is free including IFTA tracking, 4. Over all you will be saving money even though you are putting in a decent amount of initial investment. I have yet to see 1 other single device that doesn't have a monthly cost to it.

There is also an option to have the DOT officer download it to a USB that THEY SUPPLY. :)

The vdo is the way to go for him.
During inspection it’s the push of one button and then the officer has to deal with it from there.
