Question: I live in central Florida (Ocala). I am interested in attending a CDL school in Florida. I plan to pay the total cost out of pocket. I found a school in Starke (North Florida Technical School), but not sure if it is the best option. Can any of you give me what I should be most concerned with while looking into a school?

    Thanks.

The main issue is to make sure the school is at least 160 hrs. because that's what most trucking companies want.
Technical schools and community colleges in Florida have excellent reputations for good cdl training.
Many trucking companies will reimburse the tuition directly back to you.

That school looks really good and the price is right:
    North Florida Technical College
The tuition cost for the 320 clock hour program is $921.60, plus lab fees, textbook, drug testing, state license fee, tires, repairs, fuel, and other miscellaneous necessary item. Total $3,009.09. Notice: Program costs are subject to change without notice. The Pell grant is NOT available for this program.

The tech school I currently am looking into, shows 320 hours. The longer hours was one of the positive things I found.

    Thanks for your assistance.

That's the one I referenced, which you posted about.
Go there; it's a good deal.
What type trucking are you interested in? It's not too early to start considering job opportunities.

While is have done a bit of research, I am open to any type. I think my only limitation is being from Florida, I am not used to winter weather. But, I am open to anything.

For me, its not so much about being home each day. As I am more focused on the total income.

Look at tanker outfits or a company like Raven Transport that pulls dry vans.
You can make $65K - $70K pulling tankers right out of cdl school.
Here's some that hire new cdl grads:
Trimac Transportation - OTR liquid hazmat
    McKenzie Tank Lines
    Gemini Transport
    Schneider Bulk
    CTL Transportation
    SVTN - www.svtn.com
    Superior Carriers
    Tidewater Transit
All the above hire new cdl graduates, even if website has "experience required."
You don't have to live near a terminal to work for these companies if your running long haul.
