Better places to work in trucking. No pay for orientation, they will tell you, "no", "because orientation is only a day an half long" (that should be your first red flag). No sign on bonus. Safety Manager that did his intro to the company was aggressive, confrontational and arrogant. After orientation, paperwork, drug test, driving test, last step will be an interview to let you know if they will hire you, (thought that is why they got you there, not so..). They go over DAC and MVR , again. Safety and polices are geared towards firing for infractions. You must sign an agreement to be responsible for all damage to your equipment or involved with, (trailers). They encourage reporting offenses, damages. Freight is mostly auto parts. You will do a lot of swapping trailers with other drivers, (they call it relaying). Sly way of cutting into miles and really working you. Drivers I talked with had almost no positives about working there. Pay is not competitive. Star is under umbrella of Covenant Trucking. "There are better places to work".

I think it’s just a good idea for drivers looking to sign on with a company, to call in first and ask them to email the employee handbook. Seriously. Because it just seems to me that, that’s what ya gotta do these days to know exactly what the deal is with these companies.
Pumpkin Oval Head and Mike2633 Thank this. -
I know several people that work for Star, there is no shortage of miles I promise you that, especially hauling for Nissan. I have three friends that are running leases with them and several working the company side.
-
There's always one or two out there. Don't take this the wrong way but, I question your motivation. My experience is first hand. I realize that some truckers will put up with a tremendous amount of nonsense from a company because the only skill they have is behind a wheel. Truckers put up with too much from sub standard companies. BTW, Nissan closes down for a couple of weeks just like all other automobile companies. When your friends are fishing during that time, do they tell you about the big one that got away. Thanks for your post. There are better companies.

No need to question my motivation. I work for a larger competing carrier that hauls Nissan, BMW, Toyota, Honda and GM. Nissan will probably close down the week before July 4th and the following week as usual, and then before Christmas thru the new year. I have worked for my company for 7 years. Every run that Star runs pays better than what my company pays on the company driver side. My friends have gone over there throughout the years and enjoy working there, maybe it’s the terminal you were from that makes it not as desireable.
Pumpkin Oval Head and Lonesome Thank this. -
Sure I question your motivation. Your statement you work for a "competing carrier" proves my statement. If Star is such a terrific company as you paint, you would think your truck would be on their payroll and you could speak from experience. Not to offend, but you make your comments sound like a paid commercial. Hear say is just that, "hear say" and that is what your experience is concerning this company. It's not admissible in court and usually not reliable. Just a word of advice, I would stick to personal experience. The terminal has nothing to do with my post. Policy, procedure and personal experience is what I posted. There are better companies.
Thanks again... -
You can stop with the pseudo gratitude endings. Is hearsay not admissible in court? That’s news to me, never heard that in my years of being a police officer, and it’s never come up when talking to my wife who is a staff attorney for the Supreme Court. Did you get that from Lexis Nexis
The only reason I will leave my company is to get my own authority. I am financially comfortable and have no reason to leave, regardless of what you may or may not perceive in my posts. My dad made .64 cpm as a driver for Roadway, now retired, and was the chief steward of the local Union and could easily have gotten me a job there. $100-105k a year is pretty decent money as a company driver right? Yet I have been with my company for 7 years and don’t have any desire to work for YRC.
Thanks again (mean it). -
Judge Judy won't listen to hearsay.
